Andre Dawson 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen – Green mini

Andre Dawson 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen – Green mini

I’m on a roll scoring the mini cards of Andre Dawson from the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen set.

Just the other day, I showed off the Black mini that I was able to snag at a bargain price.

Well, just a few days later the Green mini card is mine as well.  This one cost me a bit more than the Black version, but that is what you get when the card is serial numbered to just 99 copies.  Mine is 60/99.

Have a look:

DAWSON GQ MINI GREEN

And I have to say that the Green border color is sharp!!!  Not only does the Image of Dawson pop due to the Dark Green border, but all of the Golden filigree and nameplate stand out nicely as well.

Just one more card to go – The hunt for the Sepia mini begins now!!

Rickey Henderson 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Sliding Stars’

If you’re going to have a subset of cards in your set that is tagged as ‘Sliding Stars’ you had better have included Rickey Henderson in the checklist.

Cheers to Topps’ Gypsy Queen for doing it right!!!!

And what an excellent image for the card – Man, O Man!!!

1982 Fleer ‘Phillies Finest’ Featuring Mike Schmidt, Lonnie Smith, and Steve Carlton

It’s always fun to see a baseball card capturing a player with an award.

This one from the 1982 Fleer baseball card set features Schmidt and teammates Lonnie Smith and Steve Carlton – and all players are taking home the honors.

Have a look:

SCHMIDT 4

For the life of me, I cannot tell what award these guys are holding.  They all appear to be the same plaque which eliminates any major league awards – maybe it is some kind of team award, like a team stat leader or something along those lines…

Hmmm.

1971 HEADLINE: Fergie Jenkins Captures 100th Win Of His Career

1971 HEADLINE: Fergie Jenkins Captures 100th Win Of His Career

On this day in 1971, Fergie Jenkins captured the 100th win of his major league career.

On the road and facing the Atlanta Braves, Jenkins and his Cubs teammates were in for a battle against future Hall of Famer Phil Niekro.

This time around, it was the Cubs that handled the Braves with ease with a final score of 11-0.  The offensive outburst was provided by Don Kessinger, Joe Pepitone, Billy Williams, and Fergie Jenkins himself who collected two hits and an RBI himself.

As for his pitching, Jenkins was superb – a complete game 3-hit shutout of the Braves with six strikeouts and just one walk.

A very memorable, and dominant, career win #100.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Jenkins!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #9 – Bryce Harper 2013 Topps Archives: 1982 Topps Base & 1983 All-Star

Baseball Card Show Purchase #9 – Bryce Harper 2013 Topps Archives: 1982 Topps Base & 1983 All-Star

My last purchase from the dealer, and the show, came as a bit of a surprise.

When I went back and visited his table right before I left for the night, he showed me a stack of Archives that he set aside for me.

You’ve already seen the Jim Palmer card he pulled for me.  And the five cards from the ‘Tall Boy’ set as well.

He did not get any Andre Dawson, Reggie Jackson, or Joe Morgan cards in his box, but then he said to me, ‘You asked for Bryce Harper, right’?  And I asked to see them – so he handed me two cards of Bryce from the set.

I asked how much for both, and he replied $4.00.  So, I bought them.

SHOW 9

And they look great!!

I really enjoy watching Harper play, and I hope that this knee injury he is dealing with is only a minor setback as he was having a fantastic season prior to being sent to the DL.

Two great cards, and a fantastic way to end the card show!!  YES!!!
