Giancarlo Stanton 2013 Topps Archives – 1972 Basketball Design

Giancarlo Stanton 2013 Topps Archives – 1972 Basketball Design

Yeah, Buddy!!  I now have three of the four Giancarlo Stanton and Miami Marlins cards from the 2013 Topps Archives set.

And this one was sent to me by a loyal 30-YOC reader, and great blogger – Adam from the blog: ARPSmith’s Cardboard Obsession.

Here is the card:

Adam sent me this card in exchange for the two 4-in-1 sticker cards that I pulled from the two retail blasters that I ripped through when this brand was first released.

And now I have to decide if I want to add this card to my Stanton collection or if I want to have it be card number one of my 1972 Basketball Design set.

Adam, Thanks again for the great trade.  I’m certain that we will do it again sometime soon.

Tony Gwynn 2013 Topps Archives – Base Card & 1983 All-Star Card

Tony Gwynn 2013 Topps Archives – Base Card & 1983 All-Star Card

I have to say that for all of the internal interest I created for the 2013 Topps Archives release, I am not liking the set as much as I thought that I would.

For as much as I am enjoying the subsets that the 2013 Archives set brought us, the image selection for this set is far from strong, and in many cases, I could call it ‘Poor’.

This lot of Tony Gwynn cards – featuring both his 1983 All-Star card and the base card utilizing the 1990 Topps design offers examples of both.

Have a look:

On one side, you have an All-Star card that hardly features an image that could be tagged as All-Star worthy.

And on the right, the action image of Gwynn is superb.

I’ll go on the record and call this one a ‘Draw’ but I cannot say for certain that the next lot I feature will be as nice to look at…

Jim Palmer 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings ‘Heritage Collection’

Jim Palmer 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings ‘Heritage Collection’

I recently made a pretty nice sized Jim Palmer-based purchase on COMC.com.

The end result was a nice stack of goodies for my Jim Palmer ‘Super Collection’ including the card you see below.

This card is part of the 2005 Donruss Diamond King series.  It is from the set that was an extension of the regular DK set, called ‘Heritage Collection’.

As you can see, the card was designed with a horizontal format, and while I like some of the graphic elements that this card employed that differ from the base set, I have to say that all of the extra, empty space to the left of Palmer’s image is just too dull for me…

A nice addition to my collection, but this one could have been so much better.

1984 Topps NL Active Home Run Leaders Starring Schmidt, Perez, And Kingman

1984 Topps NL Active Home Run Leaders Starring Schmidt, Perez, And Kingman

And why not start this wonderful Tuesday morning celebrating the home run??

The Long-Ball!

The Round Tripper!!

The Opo-Taco!!!

In the 1984 Topps baseball card set, Topps gave us a subset that acknowledged the active career leaders in multiple statistical categories.

The card below celebrates the Active Home Run leaders that were preparing to enter the 1984 baseball season.

Have a look:

And there he is, front and center – Mike Schmidt!!

Entering the ’84 season, Schmidt led the MLB with 389 career home runs.  He would end his major league run with 548.

Atta Boy Schmidtty!!!

A Few New Subsets To Tackle!!!

A Few New Subsets To Tackle!!!

I’ve eluded to this for a few weeks now that some of the subsets I had been working on for a while have been conquered.

So, without further ado, I am ready to announce the next group of subsets that I am preparing to build.

And yes, I plan on taking you with me on the journey.  So, buckle up – here they are:

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’

subset wall climber

2012 Topps ‘Prime 9 – Home Run Legends’

subset prime 9

2013 Topps Archives ‘Tallboys’

subset tallboy

2013 Topps Archives ‘1972 Basketball Design’

subset 72 basketball

2013 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Collisions At The Plate’

subset collisions

A pretty nice crop of subset themes and designs, huh???

If anyone can help me get these started I would be extremely grateful and would immediately work on a way to repay the kindness!

This is going to be a lot of fun.  Stay tuned!!!!
