Hank Aaron 2000 Topps Commemorative Set – Card #23 – 1975 Topps Design

Hank Aaron 2000 Topps Commemorative Set – Card #23 – 1975 Topps Design

I continue to work to add more cards from this set to my collection set since officially declaring that I wanted to build the full set as one of my 2013 collecting goals.

This is the 23rd card in the set, a re-print of Aaron’s 1975 Topps baseball card:

The 1975 baseball season was the last full-time season for Aaron in the big leagues.  At 41 years of age, Aaron played in 137 games for the Milwaukee Brewers.  While Aaron was still able to show some pop, with 16 doubles and 12 home runs, his batting average of .234 dipped well below his career average of .305.

’75 was Aaron’s final season as an All-Star as well.

Vince Coleman 1987 Donruss – Very Nice, But Could Be Better…

Vince Coleman 1987 Donruss

I love baseball cards that feature a Black border.  They are wildly popular among card collectors, and I think that today’s card companies still try to capitalize on that fact by inserting Black-bordered cards into today’s issues.

The 1987 Donruss baseball set is one of the few from the 1980’s to feature a Black border.  It is a nice look, and the design is fine.  But these cards did not rival in popularity to some of the others that featured a similar trait.

Still, the cards are sharp.  And the Black allowed for the card’s image to really pop.  And if that card feature a bright color, like Red, it really stood out.

This Vince Coleman card from the ’87 Donruss set is a great example.

Have a look:

The colors look great.  It’s just too bad that the image is so zoomed in.  I’d love to see more of Coleman as he prepares to take his cuts.  And it would also be nice to be able to figure out which ballpark he is playing at…

1939 Headline: Lou Gehrig Set To Retire

We have all seen the emotional footage of Gehrig standing if front of his teammates and tha fans that packed Yankee Stadium on this day in 1939.

I just couldn’t let the day go by without honoring Lou Gehrig on this blog.

Happy 4th Of July!!!

Happy 4th Of July!!!

Have a great day today. Try to go out and enjoy the weather if you can. And try to take in a local fireworks show if you’re able to do so.

But more than anything, try to take a moment to reflect on what ‘Independence Day’ is truly about. We live in an amazing country and although we may not all agree with the daily happenings of our government and leaders, we are in a much better position than the rest of the world!!!

Happy 4th of July!!!

CC Sabathia Earns Career Win #200

CC Sabathia Earns Career Win #200

From Yahoo Sports

C.C. Sabathia reached a career milestone on Wednesday, earning his 200th victory in the Yankees 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Sabathia needed a season-high 121 pitches to work through seven solid, but not quite dominant innings in the win. Though he allowed only two runs, Sabathia faced constant traffic after allowing seven hits and walking three. But in true workhorse fashion, which fits the description of Sabathia’s career so far, he battled through it and kept his team in the game.

New York’s offense finally took advantage of Sabathia’s outing in the sixth when they plated their only three runs of the game. Robinson Cano delivered the biggest blow, a game-tying two-run double. Lyle Overbay followed with a sacrifice fly to supply the difference. Sabathia also extended his personal winning streak against Minnesota to 11 dating back to July 29, 2007.

I Won A Box Of 2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball Cards!! Come Check Out ‘The Hits’!!!

Won A Box Of 2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball Cards!!  Come Check Out ‘The Hits’!!!

Yessir, the summer has been good to ’30-YOC’ thus far.

A little more than a week ago, I was notified by Topps that I had been one of five winners for a box of their newest release: 2013 Topps Series 2 Baseball.

To be eligible, all I had to do was re-Tweet a post they had on Twitter that promoted the release of the new product.

And a week later, a box of baseball cards was waiting for me on my doorstep – AMAZING!!!

If you know me, and have read my box and pack breaks before, you know that I like to show off every card I pull.  Well, with 36 packs and 10 cards per pack, tha is a lot of work.  I can handle a retail blaster fine, but 36 multi-card scans is not for me.

So, instead of that approach, I will show off what the baseball card blogosphere simply calls ‘The Hits’.  Mine, will just be an extended version…

Are you ready??

Sweet, let’s go!!!

And there you have it.  Ripping through 36 packs was a lot of fun, and these cards are sharp!!

If you see anything you like, or are building either team sets or the complete set, let me know as I can probably help your efforts in a trade of some kind.

And a special shoutout to the great people at Topps for making this a possibility!!  Thank You, Topps!!!
