2012 Topps ‘Prime 9’ Home Run Legends Redemption Set – Frank Robinson

2012 Topps ‘Prime 9’ Home Run Legends Redemption Set – Frank Robinson

The 2012 Topps ‘Prime 9’ sets were issued through redemption cards that were inserted into hobby boxes of the Topps 2012 flagship baseball card set.  The cards were numbered and each card represented a specific card it could be redeemed for.

These special insert cards were redeemable only through hobby shops and Topps made these cards available for redemption on a very limited basis.

The card’s design is great, and I have been a fan ever since seeing them.  The high-gloss finish is unlike any that I have seen before and I like the fact that Topps rewards the baseball card business owner with such a nice, exclusive offer.

This is the Frank Robinson card from the set:

A few Frank Robinson Home Run facts:
– 586 career home runs
– 34 home run per season average
– career high 49 home runs in 1966
– 10 post-season home runs including 8 in World Series play

I;m not sure what it is about this card, but I am just not a fan…

Sure, I like Dwight Gooden.   I like him a lot.

And I love vintage baseball cards – we all know that…

But there is just something about this one that I don’t find to be appealing…

Here is the card:

Maybe it is the image selection.  Maybe it is the Red, Orange, and Yellow coloring of the card’s graphics?

I’m not sure, but this one will quickly get filed with my Gooden collection.  No need to keep it out any longer…

1981 Donruss ‘Best Hitters’ Starring George Brett & Rod Carew

1981 Donruss ‘Best Hitters’ Starring George Brett & Rod Carew

I already owned a copy of this baseball card and it rests in my Rod Carew collection.  The card comes from the 1981 Donruss set, and it features the headline – ‘Best Hitters’.

And you know what?  It would be very, very hard to argue that fact.  These two guys were the best of the best – racking in batting titles and 200-hit seasons with regularity.

I was excited to check this card out again – and this new addition will make it into my George Brett player collection!!!

Have a look:

1980 HEADLINE: Johnny Bench Becomes All-Time Home Run Leader For Catchers!!

1980 HEADLINE: Johnny Bench Becomes All-Time Home Run Leader For Catchers!!

On this day in 1980, Johnny Bench became the all-time leader in home runs hit by a catcher.

At home, and in front of a relatively small crowd of just over 21,000 fans, Bench’s Reds team was taking on the Montreal Expos. Batting in the 6th spot in the lineup, Bench launched his historic home run in the bottom of the 5th inning off Expos’ hurler David Palmer. A solo-shot, Bench’s home run helped the Reds win the ballgame 11-7.

Johnny Bench connected for 389 home runs during his career. Currently he sits in second place on the all-time list for catchers, behind Mike Piazza.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Bench!!!

Jim Palmer 2003 Donruss Signature Series ‘Legends Of Summer’ Certified Autographed Card

Jim Palmer 2003 Donruss Signature Series ‘Legends Of Summer’ Certified Autographed Card

Friends, it has been waaay too long since I last added a Jim Palmer certified autograph to my collection.  I will have to step up my emphasis on this aspect of my ‘Palmer Super Collection’ as the three cards is this group need some company.

This card comes from the 2003 Donruss Signature Edition Series tagged as ‘Legends Of Summer’.  The card features a nice, action image of Mr. Palmer, and I really like the placement of hs image and the accompanying graphics.

Here is the card:

As for the auto, if is ‘Perfect-Palmer’.  Not quite legible if you don’t know what to look for but if you are familiar with his autograph, it is perfect!!

#3 is in the books, and now it is time to speed up the time between this one and the next one….

Stay tuned.
