Harmon Killebrew 1975 Topps Baseball Card

Harmon Killebrew 1975 Topps Baseball Card

I had no intention of nabbing this card, but while trying to find a few missing cards for my Rollie Fingers and Mike Schmidt collections, I fell upon it for what I thought was a great price.

I paid just $3.00 for this bad-boy, and I have to say that I think I got the better end of that deal!!

The card comes from the 1975 Topps baseball card set, and while I would prefer the card to feature an image of Killebrew taking a mean hack at the plate, it is very hard to not like the image that Topps gave us instead.

Check it out:

Seriously – one of these days I am going to have to pull and organize and scan all of the cards that I have that feature players signing autographs.  And if I found out that a checklist of cards like this existed, I would help build it up and also go after the ones that I don’t already own!!!

Joe Morgan 2002 Upper Deck ‘Heroes Of Baseball’

Joe Morgan 2002 Upper Deck ‘Heroes Of Baseball’

Upper Deck’s ‘Heroes Of Baseball’ franchise has been around for a lot longer than most collectors. know.   Many of us, myself included, thought that the set that was released in 2008 was a one-off issue.

But, there were also releases under the same name in 2005 and 2002.  And maybe a few other years as well???

Anyways, I found a card of Joe Morgan from the 2002 set and I scooped it up for my new ‘Joe Morgan Super Collection’.

Have a look:

While maybe not as colorful as the sets that followed, I do like the design and logo for this set.  And the 3-D image is a nice attraction as well!!

Giancarlo Stanton 2013 Panini Prizm

Giancarlo Stanton 2013 Panini Prizm

While it is a bit hard to truly enjoy a baseball card product that does not feature team names and logos, I have to say that this card of Giancarlo Stanton from the 2013 Panini Prizm set works.

Because of the nature of the action taking place, and the fact that Stanton is wearing his sunglasses on his cap, the card maker did not have to hide the Marlins logo that is on his jersey or cap.  Instead, the natural movement of the action taking place hides both logos – and it does not come across as poorly as other cards from this set do.

Have a look:

The card’s design is a little odd, but I have to say that for an unauthorized card, this one is great!!!

Eddie Murray 2013 Topps Archives – 1985 Topps Design

Eddie Murray 2013 Topps Archives – 1985 Topps Design

While I am not the biggest fan of the image that was used here, I am a huge fan of the 1985 Topps product.

The ’85 Topps set was the first set that I put together as a kid, and it is one that I still have a ton of fond memories of; some 28 years later.

With the 2013 Topps Archives set, Topps celebrated the 1972, 1982, 1990, and 1985 designs from their prior issues.  I was most excited about seeing new releases that featured the 1985 Topps design.

And while the great colors and classic nameplate look great, I wish that the image selection for the ’85s were a bit better!

Here is the card of Eddie Murray from the set:

I do give Topps credit for selecting this Orioles logo!

Keith Hernandez 1984 Fleer – Name That Stadium!!!

Keith Hernandez 1984 Fleer

Ok, since Keith Hernandez is wearing his ‘Road Blue’ in this shot, it is very safe to say that he and the Mets were on the road when this photo was snapped for his 1984 Fleer baseball card.

So, do you know what stadium Hernandez is posing inside of??

I know the answer!!!

Do you??

Another Special Package Is Being Mailed To Andre Dawson This Morning!!!

Another Special Package Is Being Mailed To Andre Dawson This Morning!!!

I’ve got the itch to add another signed baseball to my Andre Dawson collection.

The collection sits at 12 signed balls as of right now, so lucky #13 is being dropped off at the USPS building on my way to work this morning.

TTM Ball

Yes, I asked for another special inscription with this one.  And yes, I am going to make you wait until it is returned to me to let you know what I asked for.

Have a great day everyone!!!

I Finally Decided What I Am Going To Do With My Ryan Braun T-shirt…

I Finally Decided What I Am Going To Do With My Ryan Braun T-shirt…

After pulling Ryan Braun’s t-shirt from my closet the other day, I just let it sit on the floor in the corner.  I was not sure what I was going to do with it, but I knew that it no longer deserved to be hanging with my roster of t-shirts that contain legendary names like Nolan Ryan, Joe Morgan, Reggie Jackson, Andre Dawson, and others.

I considered donating it.

Maybe sell it in the next community garage sale we participate in.

Possibly just throw it in the garbage.

All decent options – and all were considered.

But, then I think I found the best option.  An option that allows me to vent my frustration:

I think that this worked out rather well.  Ryan Braun shit on baseball; he shit on his fans; he shit on every member of the Milwaukee Brewers organization; and he shit on the history of the game.

So now, he gets what he deserves.  And to think at one point, he was my favorite non-Marlin…

Andre Dawson 2013 Topps Tribute – Orange

Andre Dawson 2013 Topps Tribute – Orange

I’m hauling in Andre Dawson 2013 parallels at a nice pace over the last week or so!!!

First, it was the ‘Sepia Mini’ from the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen set, and now I have picked up another limited-issue card that is part of another recent Topps set.

This one is the ‘Orange’ version of the 2013 Topps Tribute set.  The card is numbered as 32/50, and as you would imagine, it offers an Orange background color.

Have a look:

Not bad, but not great – at least that it my opinion.  I like this one better than the Green, but not nearly as much as the Blue version.

And now, I am just one card away from completing another ‘Andre Dawson Rainbow’.  Bring on the ‘Gold’!!!

Bryce Harper 2013 Bowman – Base

Bryce Harper 2013 Bowman – Base

As I officially begin my Bryce Harper collection, I may as well go after a few of his easy-to-find base cards from 2013 releases.

This is Harper’s base card from the 2013 Bowman set that launched a few months ago:

Maybe it is just me, or my perceptions, but there is something about baseball cards of a left-handed hitter that I find very appealing.  Maybe the action is better? Maybe the backgrounds are better?

I’m not 100% certain as to what it may be, but I am not complaining about it!

This card shows Harper’s backswing very nicely – and he also has kept his eye on the ball through his entire swing!!

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’ Subset – Jason Heyward

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’ Subset – Jason Heyward

The 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’ set is a piece of art. The cards feature stunning graphics with images that capture some of baseball’s greatest action – the art of leaping into the air and bringing back would be home run balls.

The set offers just 10 cards, but each one is an amazing look at one of baseball’s great highlights.

This is the card of Jason Heyward from the set:

Amazingly, it was after this set was released (2012) that Jason Heyward earned his first Gold Glove Award for his defensive excellence in the outfield.

In 2012, Heyward played in 156 games and complied a fielding percentage of .986.  In 351 chances, Heyward made just 5 errors.  He also accounted for 11 assists on the year!
