Andre Dawson 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites Chrome Refractor – NICE!!!!

Andre Dawson 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites Chrome Refractor – NICE!!!!

The ability to find and purchase cards like this one is what keeps me so tuned into newly listed items on Ebay.

I’ve seen this card before, many times actually, but never at a price that I was willing to pay.

Thankfully, when this one was listed, the price was much more close to what I feel is appropriate – and I had no competition as the clock ticked down and the auction ended!!

Score one for the ‘Good Guys’!!!

This card from the 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites set is the Chrome Refractor of Dawson’s base card in that same set.  The card is serial numbered as 175/299, and it is unbelievably shiny and rigid.

Check it out:

And let me say this – This card is a much better offering than Andre’s first Topps card as a member of the Chicago Cubs!   Much, Much better!!!

Roberto Clemente 2001 Topps ’50 Years Of Topps’ – Golden Moments

Roberto Clemente 2001 Topps ’50 Years Of Topps’ – Golden Moments

As part of a large, bulk order I place on www.Sportlots.com to help me get a running start  with my new player collections, I was surprised to find this card of Roberto Clemente for such a cheap, affordable price.

I paid just $0.18 for this guy:

I am a big fan of this set  – 2001’s Topps Golden Moments.

As a matter of fact, I believe that this is one of my ‘Top Two’ sets of 2001.

I really like the Dark Green border of the card.  And the Black and White image takes you back to a time when B&W photography truly captured something that color images could not do.  Lastly, the name of the set ‘Golden Moments’ is done in a vibrant Yellow, which works and matches very well with the Pirates colors of Mr. Clemente’s uniform!!

Loving It!!!

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’ Subset – Michael Brantley

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’ Subset – Michael Brantley

The 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’ set is a piece of art. The cards feature stunning graphics with images that capture some of baseball’s greatest action – the art of leaping into the air and bringing back would be home run balls.

The set offers just 10 cards, but each one is an amazing look at one of baseball’s great highlights.

This is the card of Michael Brantley from the set:

If you’re not living in Cleveland, or are not a transplanted Indians fan living in another part of the country, you may not know the name Michael Brantley.

But, he is one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball!!

He is extremely quick and uses his speed to get to balls that would drop for his against other outfielders.  Upon entering the league at the age of 22 in 2009, he immediately made his presence known by committing just one error in his first 26 games as a big legauer while compiling a .983 fielding percentage as a rookie.  From 2009-2012, Brantely played in 355 games and has committed just 7 errors.

1993 HEADLINE: Reggie Jackson Inducted Into Baseball’s Hall Of Fame

1993 HEADLINE: Reggie Jackson Inducted Into Baseball’s Hall Of Fame

On this day in 1993, Reggie Jackson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

A colorful player both on and off the field, I am fairly certain that Reggie’s speech was a classic.  If only there was YouTube back in 1993…

A member of the ‘500 HR Club’, a league MVP, a 5-time World Series champion, and a Hall of Famer, it does not get much better than Reginald Martinez Jackson!!!

Happy Anniversary to Mr. October!

My Andre Dawson 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen Rainbow Is Complete!!  Come Check It Out!!!

Yessir, you can officially scratch another ‘Rainbow In Process’ off of my list!!!

This time around it is the Andre Dawson 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen Rainbow.  And while just five cards deep, it did take me a little time to pull the whole thing together.

Are you ready to see how it all got done?

Sweet!  First, here is a review of each card individually.

Here is the base card:

The Black mini:

The Green mini:

The Sepia mini:

And now, the full rainbow:

As you probably already know, I am a big fan of the Gypsy Queen brand.  Of all of the modern sets that Topps releases annually, the GQ set is my favorite (by a long stretch).

This year’s set included a White Paper Frame and Blue Paper Frame card of 100 players in the set.  It’s too bad that Dawson was not included in that checklist as it would have given me two more cards to go after while also adding a little more color to the rainbow.

Still, the five-card, four-color rainbow does looks pretty great!!!
