My 2013 Topps Archives Jim Palmer Rainbow Is Complete!!!

My 2013 Topps Archives Jim Palmer Rainbow Is Complete!!!

Sure, it may only be three cards deep, but a completed rainbow is a completed rainbow, and I am very happy to announce that I have completed the ‘2013 Topps Archives Jim Palmer Rainbow’.

As for how these cards were obtained, the base card was pulled from a pack that came out of a retail blaster.  The ‘Orange Day Glow’ card was picked up on Ebay when I first discovered that the cards existed.  And the Gold version was also scooped up on Ebay after an exhaustive search.

Here are the cards.

First, as singles.

Base:

PALMER ARCHIVES BASE

Orange ‘Day Glow’:

PALMER ARCHIVES DAY GLOW

Gold:

PALMER ARCHIVES GOLD

And now, for the rainbow:

PALMER ARCHIVES RAINBOW

I like it!!!

And now that this is done, I can focus on working on the others that I need.  Like the Morgans, Reggies, Stantons, etc…  Wish me luck!!!

2013 Topps Archives ‘Tallboys’ Subset – Dante Bichette

2013 Topps Archives ‘Tallboys’ Subset – Dante Bichette

With the new 2013 Topps Archives baseball card set release, the ‘Mini Tallboys’ subset is easily one of the best parts of the issue.

The cards from this subset offer a very basic, but throwback feel that screams vintage. The set is 40 cards deep and offers a nice mixture of current players, stars from the 1980′s, and Hall of Fame legends.

This is the Dante Bichette card from the set:

BICHETTE

Dante Bichette played in the major leagues for 14 seasons.  During that time, he suited up for the Angels, Brewers, Rockies, Reds, and Red Sox.

This card features Bichette as a member of the Rockies; and it is the proper choice.  7 of Bichette’s 14 big league seasons were spent in Colorado.  During that time, he was an All-Star four time and an MVP candidate.

Bichette clubbed 274 home runs during his career, 201 of them coming while with the Rockies.

Joe Morgan 2011 Topps Kimball Champions – Mini

Joe Morgan 2011 Topps Kimball Champions – Mini

I am a big fan of the 2011 Kimball Champions subset and it is one of the recently departed sets that I would like to see come back if and when the time is right.

The cards are miniature in size, and they feature both a posed portrait and in-‘action’ shot along the bottom.

This is the Joe Morgan card from the set:

morgan 6

I’m really digging this one – a true vintage throwback!!!

And I am very happy to see a card that celebrates Morgan’s defensive abilities on display.  While he was one of the most dangerous offensive weapons from the 1970’s, Morgan was also a very talented defensive player as well.

I’m loving the landscape in the background of the image too!!!

1979 HEADLINE: Lou Brock Joins The ‘3,000 Hits Club’!!!!

1979 HEADLINE: Lou Brock Joins The ‘3,000 Hits Club’!!!!

On this day in 1979 Lou Brock connected for the 3,000th hit of his career.

In front of his home crowd of almost 45,000 fans at Busch Stadium, Brock went 2-for-2 on the day and made baseball history in front of the most loyal fans in the game.

The victim that day was Dennis Lamp of the Chicago Cubs who gave up singles to Brock in both the second and fourth innings.  It’s kind of ironic that Brock’s historic achievement came against his former team huh??

Congratulations Mr. Brock!!!

1969 HEADLINE: Jim Palmer Hurls No-Hitter!!!

1969 HEADLINE: Jim Palmer Hurls No-Hitter!!!

On this day in 1969, Jim Palmer and his Baltimore Orioles teammates were at home to face the Oakland Athletics.  2 of the better teams in the American League, both rosters were full of All-stars and future Hall of Famers.

But on this day, it was Palmer’s star that shined the brightest!!

Palmer threw a complete game against the O’s, allowing no hits in the process.  Taking his amazing record to 11-2 on the year, Palmer gave up 0 runs while striking out 8 and walking 6.

The Orioles won the game 8-0, with help from the offense of Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, and Don Bufurd.  And Palmer, a talented athlete himself, helped his cause at the plate too – he went 2-for-3 on the day while also scoring a run and driving in another!

Happy Anniversary Mr. Palmer!!!

Lot Of 2 Fergie Jenkins 2013 Chicago Cubs Season Ticket Holder Commemorative Tickets

Lot Of 2 Fergie Jenkins 2013 Chicago Cubs Season Ticket Holder Commemorative Tickets

I believe that it was in 2012 that Topps started issuing special commemorative season tickets that featured Topps baseball cards within the design.  A few of the tickets issued last year featured Andre Dawson and Fergie Jenkins so I was excited to have a few new, and somewhat unique, pieces to track down for my collections.

Well, in 2013, the Cubs and Topps teamed up again for another set of season tickets and I have picked up two that feature Fergie Jenkins.

Have a look:

2013 COMMEMORATIVE TICKETS

These are really sharp-looking tickets and I am loving that they feature new designs that have not been seen before.  The ticket on the left, from the Cubs game on April 17, features Fergie on a 1954 Topps card.  And the ticket on the right, from the game on April 9, shows Fergie on a 1994 Topps card.

I’m not sure how many more of these are out there, but if there are more, I will certainly try to find them and bring them home.  I do know one guy that I think will be able to help me with that info…

2 great new pieces for my ‘Ultimate Jenkins‘ collection – Come check it all out!!!

And now I need to see if any of these special tickets feature Andre Dawson as well…
