Andre Dawson 2013 Panini Museum Collection – Father’s Day Special Edition!!!

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini Museum Collection – Father’s Day Special Edition!!!

This is the first card of Andre Dawson that I have picked up from the 2013 Panini Museum Collection set.  The set is tagged as ‘Father’s Day Special Edition’.

Have a look:

Nice, huh??  I am really liking this card!!

The ‘Father’s Day Special Edition’ set was released by Panini through hobby shops.  It was treated as a redemption award for prior Panini purchases.  The set fetures 44 total cards, and the packs contain just two cards each.

I know that there are more versions of this card out there – like the ‘Cracked Ice’ and ‘Lava Flow’ cards that I have been seeing on Ebay.  And there are autos too.

Hopefully I can track down a few more of these for my collection in the coming weeks and months.

Stay tuned.

Reggie Jackson 2013 Topps – 1972 Mini

Reggie Jackson 2013 Topps – 1972 Mini

I desperately want a 1972 Topps Reggie Jackson baseball card for my collection.  But, until I find one in my price range that is in the condition I am seeking, I will wait to strike.

You can imagine my happiness when I saw Reggie’s name on the 2013 ’72 Mini’ checklist that debuted earlier in the collecting year.  As soon as I saw that, I knew that I would want one for my collection.

And now, I have it!!!

Have a look:

I love the card, and I like the shot of Reggie that was used.  But, Topps should have used an image of Reggie in his Oakland Athletics uniform as he was starring for that team in 1972.

Other than that, I am more than pleased with this card – I LOVE IT!!!

And hopefully soon I can get my hands on an original from the 1972 Topps set.

Wish me luck!!!

Roberto Clemente 2000 Upper Deck Legends

Roberto Clemente 2000 Upper Deck Legends

I truly like the image that Upper Deck selected for this card of Roberto Clemente from the 2000 Upper Deck Legends set.

It is the rest of the card that is a let-down…

Have a peek:

Yeah, just way too much going on for me – and nothing to really bring it all together…

I love the image because it captures the old Pirates uniform very well.  But the rest of the card is really, really bad.

It is near impossible to read any of the text in the block under Clemente’s image.  The background behind the text is a complete distraction.  And while it is not as bad on the right side as it is on the bottom, it does not allow for the player’s name to be showcased on the card front.

Did You Know…

Jim Colborn is the first pitcher in Milwaukee Brewers history to capture 20 wins in a single season.   He accomplished that feat in 1973 with his 20-12 record.  He is also the first player in Kansas City Royals history to throw a no-hitter.  His ‘No-No’ came on May 14, 1977.

Million Dollar Question – ‘When I Say 1987 Fleer, You Think What Card’???

Million Dollar Question – ‘When I Say 1987 Fleer, You Think What Card’???

This past Sunday night I showed off the two cards of Reggie Jackson that were part of the 1987 Fleer base and update set.

I like the set a lot, and I have fond memories of opening a box of this release as a 12-year old collector.

I thought this would be a great way to jump into tonight’s ‘Million Dollar Question’.

So, keeping with the theme of recent weeks, I want to know what the is the first card that you think of when you hear the name of the ‘1987 Fleer’ set.

It could be a rookie card. It could be a card that stands out for an odd image.  Or it could be the card of your favorite player.

And for me, this one is of my favorite player – Andre Dawson.

Check it out:

Dawson 1987 Fleer

For me, this card is exceptional.  I have always been a big fan of this one, and to this date, it ranks as my favorite card issued of Andre during his playing days.

I love the coloring.  I love the Montreal Expos logo.  And the image of the angle is perfect.

I loved this card when I pulled one out of a pack in 1987, and now 26 years later it is still a favorite!!!

How about you?  ‘When I Say 1987 Fleer, You Think What Card’???
