Andre Dawson 1994 Topps – En Espanol (In Spanish)

Andre Dawson 1994 Topps – En Espanol (In Spanish)

While my main focus in my Andre Dawson baseball collection is staying on top of modern issues, I always keep an eye on stuff issued from his playing days that I have not yet added to my collection.

The result of that is that I have found some pretty neat cards – cards that I did not even know existed.

Two weeks ago, I scored this card – a 1994 Topps card that is in Spanish.

You may not know it by looking at the front:

But, you can clearly see it on the back:

Bueno!!  A very nice addition to my collection of cards that feature Andre from his playing days.

I wonder how many other years these were made.  Maybe I can add some more bulk to my collection if I can find a few more…  Time to research.

Reggie Jackson 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen – Brown Paper Frame

Reggie Jackson 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen – Brown Paper Frame

And the quest to complete another ‘Rainbow’ marches on.  I have just a few of Reggie’s cards from the 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen set.

But, this addition – the Brown Paper Frame version – gets me one step closer.

Take a look:

The card looks great.  The Yellow and Green work well with the Brown framing of the card.  But, the Silver and Brown combo just does not do it for me.  I’d say that the White and Blue framed cards from 2013 work much better with the Silver foil and filigree.

Still, I am happy to have found this card and I look forward to working on the completion of another rainbow.

George Brett 1989 Upper Deck – What Is Brett Doing In This Image???

George Brett 1989 Upper Deck

George Brett was a player that was known to have a good time – both on the field and off of the field.

It was not uncommon to kind Brett sporting a smile from ear-to-ear while warming up, at the plate, or playing defense.

Brett’s 1989 Upper Deck baseball card captures that emotion perfectly.

Check it out:

So, what do you think Brett is doing in this shot???

  1. Chatting with the first base coach of the opposing team
  2. Telling jokes to the guys in the dugout
  3. Making eye contact with the babes in the front row
  4. Other

Take your guess.

Did You Know…

Bob Elliott drove in more runs that any other player in the major leagues during the 1940’s.  The 1947 NL Most Valuable Player drove in 903 runs during the decade.

1997 HEADLINE: Renteria’s 11th Inning Hit Clinches The World Series For The Florida Marlins!!!

1997 HEADLINE: Renteria’s 11th Inning Hit Clinches The World Series For The Florida Marlins!!!

On this day in 1997 Edgar Rentaria’s single in the bottom of the 11th inning in Game 7 of the World Series was the game winning hit that delivered the Florida Marlins their first ever World Series title!!!

Another boyhood dream was realized when under the ultimate amount of pressure Edgar shined and both he, the team, and the fans of the Florida Marlins reaped the benefits.

I was at Game 1 of this World Series and the atmosphere was incredible.  I could only imagine how much more intense it was on this night when the championship was finally won.

Happy Anniversary Edgar!!!

1982 HEADLINE: Steve Carlton Becomes First Pitcher To Win 4 Cy Young Awards

1982 HEADLINE: Steve Carlton Becomes First Pitcher To Win 4 Cy Young Awards

On this day in 1982, Steve Carlton was awarded with the NL Cy Young Award.

This win, the fourth for Carlton, marked the first time in major league history that a pitcher was honored as the Cy Young winner in four different seasons.

And when looking at his numbers, it is now wonder that Carlton was the pitcher to make this kind of history.

Check the stats:

1972 – 27-10, 1.97 ERA, 30 complete games, 8 shutouts, 310 strikeouts, 3.56:1 K:walk ratio, All-Star, NL Triple Crown

1977 – 23-10, 2.64 ERA, 17 complete games, 2 shutouts, 198 strikeouts, 2.22:1 K;Walk ratio, All-Star

1980 – 24-9, 2.34 ERA, 13 complete games, 3 shutouts, 286 strikeouts, 3.16:1 K:walk ratio, All-Star, World Series title

1982 – 23-11, 3.10 ERA, 19 complete games, 6 shutouts, 286 strikeouts, 3.33:1 K:walk ratio, All-Star

Pretty awesome stuff right there, huh?

Happy Anniversary Mr. Carlton!!!

2003 Topps Total Florida Marlins Team Set

2003 Topps Total Florida Marlins Team Set

I had never heard of the Topps Total set of cards until I ran across this Marlins team set from 2003 while shopping on Ebay for more team sets.

The set is nice, and it has a few standout features.

Check it out:

This is a pretty nice set, and I like that it features a larger team set than what other sets offer.

For me the standouts are: The Black and Teal frame, the set size, the action imagery, and the Red & White Topps Total logo.

I need to learn more about this brand – maybe there are a few more Marlins team sets that I can grab…
