Roberto Clemente 2013 Topps ‘Chasing History’ – 3000 Hits
While there is no way that Roberto Clemente’s major league baseball career ended in the way that he would have wished, I do find it kind of fitting to be sitting squarely at 3,000 hits.
That may sound odd, and I do not mean to be rude, but as a kid I always thought (well before knowing anything about Clemente) it would be neat to end a career with exactly 500 home runs, 300 pitching wins, 3,000 strikeouts, or 3,00o hits.
This card of Clemente comes from the 2013 ‘Chasing History’ subset. The card acknowledges Clemente’s chase towards the magical milestone of 3,000 hits.
While working with considerably less space due to the card’s design, I do think that it would be fitting if Topps chose an image of Mr. Clemente with a bat in his hands for this one…
Still, I love that old Pirates uniform. And those socks that Clemente wore are perfect!!!
