2013 Topps Archives ‘Tallboys’ Subset – Otis Nixon

With the new 2013 Topps Archives baseball card set release, the ‘Mini Tallboys’ subset is easily one of the best parts of the issue.

The cards from this subset offer a very basic, but throwback feel that screams vintage. The set is 40 cards deep and offers a nice mixture of current players, stars from the 1980′s, and Hall of Fame legends.

This is the Otis Nixon card from the set:

Otis Nixon enjoyed a 17-season major league baseball career.  He played for nine different teams during that span becoming a fan favorite due to his hustle and ability to cause havoc on the base paths.

Otis Nixon stole 620 bases during his career, with a career high of 72 coming in 1991 with the Braves.  He is 16th on the all-time MLB list for career steals.  Being such a terror to deal with on while running the bases, Nixon scored 878 runs.

  1. Remember when Otis got plunked by a pitcher and he charged the mound doing a spinning back kick? I don’t think it landed, but I imagine the pitcher was thinking, “I wasn’t expecting you to go ninja on me.”
