Did You Know…

Vida Blue was the first pitcher in the 20th century to strike out over 300 batters in a season but not lead the league in strikeouts.  In 1971, Blue struck out 301 batters but it was Mickey Lolich led the league with 309 K’s.

  1. Vida was a vebal commit to the University of Houston as a quarterback but signed a pro baseball contract when his father passed and he needed to help the family. At least that’s the story I heard when I was working at UH Athletics
