Giancarlo Stanton 2011 Topps ‘Topps 60’
While a relative newcomer to the game when this set was released, it is nice to see Giancarlo Stanton featured in the ‘Topps 60’ set that was issued in 2011.
Have a look:
That’s a nice action image, and the background of the grass and clay adds a nice touch of color to the background as well.
And I love the cut-out ’60’ that serves as the backdrop for the card – a very fitting and unique way to celebrate ’60 Years Of Topps’.

George Brett 1986 Donruss Highlights
Yessir, it is time to celebrate! And what better way to celebrate a baseball accomplishment than with a ‘Highlights’ card.
While many card companies insert their ‘Highlights’ cards right into their base sets, Donruss took the thought to another level and issued ‘Highlight Sets’ in 1985 and 1986. The cards for both of these Donruss sets use the same graphic design as the base set, but a border color change allows for them to have one stand-out difference.
This is the George Brett card from the 1986 set:
The card celebrates George Brett becoming the all-time hits leader in Kansas City Royals franchise history – a record he still holds to this day!

Happy Birthday Steve Garvey!!!
Steve Garvey turns 65 years old today!!!
Garvey was a monster during the mid-to-late 1970’s while with the Los Angeles Dodgers. From 1974 to 1981, Garvey finished in the Top 25 in the MVP race each season which validates how solid of a player he was during the prime of his career. While winning the award in 1974, Garvey hit .312 while slugging 21 home runs and driving in 111 runs.
A 10-time All-star selection and winner of 4 consecutive Gold Glove awards, Garvey held down the spot as one of the game’s great first baseman during the mid-70’s and into the ’80s.
Garvey was also an instrumental player in helping his team reach 3 World Series championship match-ups in a 5-year span. Garvey’s Dodgers made it to the Fall Classic in 1974, 1977, and 1978 – losing all three times. But during those championship games, Garvey shined. He boasts a .319 batting average in World Series play along with 1 home run, 6 RBI, and 5 runs scored.
Happy Birthday Mr. Garvey!!!

Happy Birthday Steve Carlton!!!
Steve Carlton turns 69 years old today.
Steve Carlton is one of the game’s greatest pitchers of all-time. And one of its most under-appreciated as well…
Carlton had a dominant 24-season major league baseball career. A first ballot Hall of Famer, Carlton’s resume boasts some incredibly impressive accomplishments:
- 4 Cy Young awards
- 10-time All-star
- 329 career victories
- 4,136 strikeouts
- 1 Gold Glove award
- 1972 National League Triple Crown winner
- Member of the 1967 World Series champions
See what I mean?? Not too many men that have played this game can compare.
Cheers to you, ‘Lefty’!!! And Happy Birthday too!!!

Andre Dawson 1988 Score ‘Box Bottom Card’ – AUTOGRAPHED!!!
After securing the 1987 NL MVP Award, Andre Dawson was celebrated pretty regularly in the hobby the following year.
That means – more attention to the player, and more cards featuring him littered in any/all sets that were produced.
It also meant a spot as a ‘Box Bottom’ card for the inaugural set issued by Score in 1988. On the bottom of the ‘wax’ packs of Score there was a 4-card bottom that offered exclusive players in a design that was unique to the regular 1988 design. Andre was included as a card in that ‘Box Bottom’ set and I have that card in my ‘Ultimate Dawson’ collection.
And now, I have an autographed version of the card too!!!
The edges may not be perfect, but I a love it!!!
