2011 Topps ‘Prime 9 Players Of The Week’ Redemption Set – Ichiro
I had such a good time building the ‘Prime 9 – Home Run Legends’ set that as soon as it was completed, I jumped right into the ‘Prime 9 – Players Of The Week’ set.
The set was issued in the same manner – through exclusive redemption cards that could only be processed through hobby shops.
The set is ten cards deep, and features a great graphic display as well as a super-glossy finish.
This is the Ichiro card from the set:
The back of the card features ‘9 Prime’ facts about Ichiro.
A few of my favorites are:
- Was hitting 500 balls a day at age 7
- won seven Pacific League batting titles in a row
- second player to be ROY and MVP in same season
- only player in MLB history with 10 consecutive 200-hit seasons
- holds single-season record of 262 hits

Joe Morgan 2005 Donruss Throwback Threads ‘Generations’ w/Ryne Sandberg & Alfonso Soriano
When Donruss was drafting these cards, they did a fantastic job in selecting the players to be matched up.
I have a few of them, and I don’t think that any disappoint. And I have to guess that the task is not a simple one – taking three players from three generations that share the common bond of playing the same position.
This card does it well as it features Joe Morgan, Ryne Sandberg, and Alfonso Soriano.
Have a look:
Regarded as the best second basemen of their eras, the pairing of Morgan and Sandberg makes a ton of sense. And while Soriano was yet to truly make his claim as the best 2B in baseball by the time this card was issued, he does have quite a bit in common with both of these players – speed, bat control, and offensive pop!!
Ultimately, Alfonso Soriano would convert to the outfield but when his career is complete, a comparison of his numbers against what Morgan and Sandberg achieved should be a fun conversation (or debate).

Mike Stanton 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’
I had such a hard time finding this card when I was building the ‘Wall Climbers’ set that I picked up a second one at the same time of my purchase so I can have one for my set and one for my PC.
While not the most gifted defender in the outfield, Stanton does have a knack for making some pretty spectacular plays. With his speed and size, he is able to get to balls that would either get past another player or over them.
Hopefully he is featured in a few more subsets like this one in the future as they look spectacular!!

Reggie Jackson 2013 Panini Cooperstown – Base
I am so behind in my quest to add cards from the 2013 Panini Cooperstown set to my collection, I feel like I am in a hole.
I’ve tried my best to stay focused on pulling cards of Palmer, Morgan, and Jackson into my player collections, but with all of the attention paid to some of my new, modern PC’s, I am behind.
I will fix that – and I will reshuffle my priorities to avoid this becoming a recurring theme.
In the meantime, enjoy the base card of Reggie from the Cooperstown set:
And while you do that, I will seek out the colored parallels… Stay tuned.

Happy Birthday Hanley Ramirez!!!
Hanley Ramirez turns 30 years old today.
One of the most talented baseball players ever to wear the Marlins uniform (Florida and Miami), Hanley Ramirez has the skills and baseball smarts to be the leader and centerpiece of his team.
His ability to dominate the game with his speed, hitting, power, and defense are all evident – I have seen him do it numerous times.
In 2007 he stole 51 bases.
In 2008 he slugged 33 home runs.
In 2009 he won a batting title with a .342 average.
And if he was focused and determined, I think he can do it for a full season and become a top MVP candidate. And maybe, just maybe, be tabbed one day as ‘The Best Player In The Game’!!!
Now a Dodger, always a Marlin!!! I wish you nothing but the best Hanley!!!

Fergie Jenkins 2007 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts Triple-Relic Card!!
When I first came across this card, I thought it would be a fun journey to collect 4 of them – each with another swatch of jersey.
That quest started with the first card from this issue that I added to my Fergie Jenkins collection – a dual relic card that I picked up all the way back in December of 2010.
Since then, I have let many cards from this set come and go.
But now, after three years, I have added my second card to the set – a card that features three pieces of jersey filling in the C,U, and T of ‘CUTS’.
The card is serial numbered as 89/99 and it looks pretty sick!!!
Check it out:
I am loving it.
And I a promising myself, and you , and Fergie that I will not wait until 2016 to obtain my next card for this collection. Hopefully, it is something that I can tackle in the weeks and months ahead.
Wish me luck!
