Andre Dawson 2013 Panini Hometown Heroes – Chicago

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini Hometown Heroes – Chicago

I keep trying to chip away at this set – and there are a ton of cards to go after.

But, if you know me than you know that I truly enjoy a challenge.  And if said challenge is going to include the prospect of adding more cards of Andre Dawson to my collection, than I am ‘All In’.

This is Andre’s base card from the 2013 Panini Hometown Heroes set.

As you can see, his base card is from his days with ‘Chicago’.  He also has a Short Print card in the set that features him as a member of the ‘Montreal’ franchise.

Give me a little time, I am going to go after all of these!!

Jose Fernandez 2013 Topps Heritage High-Numbers Web Exclusive ROOKIE CARD!!!

Jose Fernandez 2013 Topps Heritage High-Numbers Web Exclusive ROOKIE CARD!!!

Just last week I showed off my Marlins team set purchase from the 2013 Topps Heritage High-Numbers set.

That 5-card set features another Jose Fernandez rookie card, and as soon as I secured the set for my Marlins team set project, I immediately sought after an extra rookie card for my rapidly growing Fernandez collection.

And amazingly, I had to pay more for this single than I did for the 5-card team set that included this single in it…

Gotta love it!!!

2013 Topps Update ‘Postseason Heroes’ Subset – Bret Saberhagen

2013 Topps Update ‘Postseason Heroes’ Subset – Bret Saberhagen

The 2013 Topps Update baseball card set includes a subset tagged as ‘Postseason Heroes.  And with that theme, you would expect to find cards of modern players like Albert Pujols, Edgar Renteria, and Pablo Sandoval but none of these guys made the checklist.

That does leave room for some nice surprises…

This is the card of Bret Saberhagen from the set:

Bret Saberhagen played in the major leagues for 16 seasons.  He played for four teams during that span, and had his greatest postseason success during his time with the Kansas City Royals.

In the 1985 World Series, Saberhagen was the MVP.  He started two games for the Royals – winning and going the distance in both.  He pitched 18 innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out 10 batters and walking just one.

Hank Aaron 1994 Upper Deck ‘Diamond Legends’

Hank Aaron 1994 Upper Deck ‘Diamond Legends’

This is kind of a different one…

I picked it up recently ‘on the blind’ as I was doing some shopping on sportlots.com.  The seller was offering it for $0.18 and I already had a bunch of cards in my cart from him so I took the low-risk plunge.

The card was produced by Upper Deck in 1994, and is part of the ‘Diamond Legends’ set.

As you can see, the card features 2 images – 1 action, and 1 posed.

I am still trying to find the right words to describe how the coloring of the card works…

Did You Know…

No player in major league history has earned more Gold Glove Awards than Greg Maddux.  During his 23-year big league career, Maddux won an unreal 18 Gold Glove Awards for his defensive excellence from the pitching mound.

With Eddie Murray Now Out Of The Way… The #1 Signed Baseball On My ‘Want List’ Is Now…

With Eddie Murray Now Out Of The Way…  The #1 Signed Baseball On My ‘Want List’ Is Now…

In case you missed it, earlier in the week I showed off the newest signed baseball for my collection – Hall of Famer Eddie Murray.

Murray had been on my ‘want list’ for years.  And when I added Hank Aaron to my collection almost a year ago, he occupied the #1 spot on my ‘want list’.

But, now that I have Mr. Murray in my collection, a new #1 must be crowned.  I mean, it is only fair – right?

I didn’t have to think too hard about this one as it is another guy that has been on my ‘want list’ for years.  And while he has never been a huge priority to add, that changes now.

This one has a nice ‘1975 theme’ to it as well, and that is a big bonus for your buddy here at ’30-YOC’.

This is the next one that I am after:

Tom Seaver

That autograph belongs to 1975 NL Cy Young Award winner, and Hall of Famer, Tom Seaver.

Let the hunt begin!!!
