Bryce Harper 2013 Bowman Platinum – Blue!!!
Another sweet parallel card for my Bryce Harper collection. This is the ‘Blue’ version from the 2013 Bowman Platinum set.
This is the third card of Bryce that I have nabbed from this set – I already owned the base and the Gold versions. And since neither of them is serial numbered I really don’t know if any of them are more rare than the next.
What I do know is that there are at least two more versions out there – Blue Sapphire and Red Ruby.
In time, I hope to be able to grab both!

1974 HEADLINE: Hank Aaron Is Baseball’s New Home Run King!!!
On this day in 1974, and less than a week into the new baseball season, Hank Aaron became ball’s new home run king. What a long offseason it must have been…
At home, and in front of 53,775 Braves fans, Hank Aaron crushed the 715th home run of his career passing Babe Ruth. Coming to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning, Arron faced Al Downing and sent his offering into the left field bleachers!!
And as they say, ‘The Crowd Went Wild’!!
Congratulations on this magnificent achievement Mr. Aaron!!!

Happy Birthday Gary Carter!!!!
Today, we celebrate the life and birth of Gary Edmund Carter.
Had it not been for a player named Johnny Bench, Gary Carter may be considered the best catcher in baseball history. In this case, 2nd place is not too bad of a spot to be in when you’re behind one the greatest players in major league history.
Gary Carter brought a level of offensive and defensive consistency to the catching position for 19 seasons. An 11-time All-star, Carter was the team leader during his days with the Montreal Expos and New York Mets. His solid offensive play, highlighted by winning 5 Silver Slugger awards, and his dominant defense in which he won 3 Gold Gloves established him as one of the most complete players during the 1970’s and into the 1980’s. With a career batting average of .262, Carter captured 2,092 hits during his playing days. And with 324 homers, 1,225 RBI, and 1,025 runs scored, Carter provided punch to the offense that was rare from the catcher’s position during those times. Due to the rarity of this kind of production by a catcher, Gary Carter finished in the Top 17 for the MVP award 7 times during his career.
Gary Carter played in 1 World Series match-up in 1986 and his New York Mets won the title in 7 games. During that series, Carter batted .276 while hitting 2 home runs and knocking in an amazing 9 runs.
We miss you and love you Gary!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #8 – Miami Marlins 2014 Topps Opening Day Team Set & Extras For My PC’s
I was so happy to have found this dealer with so many cards from the 2014 Topps Opening Day set. When I was talking to him, I asked how many boxes he ripped to get this many cards and he told me ‘three hobby boxes’.
So, while I was digging through the remains of his three boxes, I was focused on pulling cards for my player collections and Marlins team set.
And wouldn’t you know it, he had cards of all four Marlins in the set – Jose Fernandez, Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, and Jake Marisnick.
And now, my Marlins team set build is complete!!!
The only card of a Marlin that I am still missing from this set is the mascot card of ‘Billy The Marlin’. I am now actively seeking three of these – one for my older son, one for my younger son, and one for my team set.
But this journey through more than 400 singles from the OD set does not end just yet…
I was able to pull extra singles of both Stanton and Fernandez for my PC’s.
Not only did I start and finish my team set with this one stop during my shopping spree, but I was also able to grab the needed singles for my modern player collections too.
