Florida Marlins 1996 Pinnacle Aficianado Team Set

Florida Marlins 1996 Pinnacle Aficianado Team Set

Taking a slight break from newly released 2014 Marlins team sets, I am happy to be able to show off this one.  This 6-card set is from the 1996 Pinnacle Aficianado set.

I scored this team set for just $1.00 and I am happy that I did.  The set offers a strange design, with some cards being done in full-color and others in Sepia tones.  And As you can see below, there is also a Black & White pixellated cameo of each player on the side of the card.

See for yourself:

I have no idea what this style is called or even if there is a name for it.  Does it look great?  I don’t know – I am on the fence with it.  I will say, however, that it is unique and I like Pinnacle’s desire to attempt something different.

I really like the mix of players featured too.  Between the legends of Dawson and Conine to the younger stars of the team like Sheffield and CJ, this one has something for all Marlins fans.

Bryce Harper 2013 Topps Chrome Update – Home Run Derby Card

Bryce Harper 2013 Topps Chrome Update – Home Run Derby Card

Yes, I am the guy that is still working on hauling in cards from 2013 issues while most other collectors have moved on to the new, 2014 stuff.

I cannot help it, I want to complete a few projects and now that I have ventured into the ‘modern player collector game’ I will readily admit that I am falling behind and a bit overwhelmed by the number of cards to go after that feature the players I am collecting.

It probably does not help that I am going after some of the players that are also the most featured, right?  I mean, Bryce Harper has to be in the ‘Top 10’ of players featured on 2013 baseball cards.  And McCutchen, Stanton, and Pedroia cannot be that far behind either…

Anyway, this card is from the 2013 Topps Chrome Update set.  It is Bryce’s Home Run Derby card from the All-Star game.

Have a look:

And now with this one in my collection, it is time for me to grab his All-Star card from the same set.

And then, this set is done.

Giancarlo Stanton 2014 Topps Heritage – Base

Giancarlo Stanton 2014 Topps Heritage – Base

With the team set out of the way, I will start paying more attention to the singles I want to grab for my player collections from the 2014 Topps Heritage set.

I am not sure how easy it will be to grab some of the tougher cards from this issue, but the grabbing the base card was fairly simple.

So, let’s call this Card #1 in my pursuit of the cards of Giancarlo Stanton from the set.

And now, on to the next…

1987 HEADLINE: Schmidt Connects For Home Run #500!!!

1987 HEADLINE: Schmidt Connects For Home Run #500!!!

On this day in 1987 Michael Jack Schmidt hit the 500th home run of is incredible career!!

I remember watching the highlights of this game. The joy that Schmidt shared with us as he rounded the bases while pumping his fists is one of the greatest memories I have of baseball from 1980’s. Rarely do you see a player emit so much joy during a game, but Schmidt did not hold back and I am thankful that I was able to enjoy his moment with him.

Schmidt finished his career with 548 home runs placing him in 13th place on the all-time list.

Congratulations Mike and Happy Anniversary!!!
