Florida Marlins 1995 Score Summit Team Set

Florida Marlins 1995 Score Summit Team Set

I love these little 4-6 card team sets from the 1990’s.  And there were a ton of them.

This Marlins team set was issued by Score in 1995 and is part of their ‘Summit’ set.

Have a look:

I should have scanned this better so all of the cards are presented to you in the manner in which they should be viewed.  Sorry about that…

Still, these cards are packed with action.  And Teal!

And I love the Golden Marlins logo that anoints the bottom of the card – the perfect amount of flare without going overboard.

Giancarlo Stanton 2014 Topps ‘Spring Fever’ Redemption Card

Giancarlo Stanton 2014 Topps ‘Spring Fever’ Redemption Card

This card came to my courtesy of a very generous blogger, Pat from ‘Hot Corner Cards’.  This is the first of what will be a 2-post set as Pat sent me two excellent cards for my Marlins collection.

The card comes from the redemption set tagged as ‘Spring Fever’.  The cards are obtained through hobby shops and are awarded to collectors that pull special redemption cards from 2014 Topps Series 1 packs.  I believe that each redemption card gets you a pack of 5 ‘Spring Fever’ cards.  Since I don’t purchase cards at hobby shops, the only way I would be able to get this card in my collection would be through the secondary web market –  Ebay, COMC, Sportlots, etc.

Or, a very generous guy would simply send me one!!!

Here is the card of Giancarlo Stanton from the 2014 Topps Spring Fever set:

Thank you, Pat.

Dustin Pedroia 2009 Topps ‘Ticket To Stardom’

Dustin Pedroia 2009 Topps ‘Ticket To Stardom’

I love this card design and  I wish that it was one Topps would bring back periodically to showcase young talent as well as legends from the past.

The card is from the 2009 Topps insert set tagged as ‘Ticket To Stardom’.

I am very excited to add the card of Dustin Pedroia from the set to my collection.

And I just wish that there were more…

I’d love cards like this of Dawson, Jenkins, Morgan, Reggie, Palmer, and more.  And let’s not forget about Giancarlo Stanton, Bryce Harper, Jose Fernandez, and Cutch.

Jose Fernandez 2014 Topps ‘The Future Is Now – Jose You Can’t See’

Jose Fernandez 2014 Topps ‘The Future Is Now – Jose You Can’t See’

I don’t know why it took me so long to get this card, but I have now completed the 2-card rainbow of Jose Fernandez from the 2014 Topps ‘The Future Is Now’ subset.

I picked up card 1 from the set soon after the debut of 2014 Topps, Series 1.

And now, I have scored the sister-card.

Have a look:

Jose has been pitching very well so far this season.  I am eager to see how the Marlins treat him if/when he approaches the 8th or 9th inning and his pitch count is still acceptable as he has yet to ‘go the distance’ in any of his 33 career starts.

I wonder if this subset will be continued in the Series 2 issue.  And I wonder if Topps will give us the same players featured in Series 1 or if they will offer up ‘New’ guys…

Happy Birthday Larry ‘Chipper’ Jones!!!

Happy Birthday Larry ‘Chipper’ Jones!!!

Chipper Jones turns 42 years old today.

It’s hard to believe that we watched the recently retired Larry ‘Chipper’ Jones play major league baseball for close to 2 decades. I remember getting his rookie cards in packs when I collected cards as a kid and being thrilled to pull the brightest star in the set.

20+ years later, Chipper was nothing short of spectacular. His offensive dominance was consistent as any player in the game. And his skills seemed to sharpen season after season as he became a better hitter, a more powerful hitter, and a more disciplined hitter.

A 1-time shoe-in for the 3,000 hits club and 500 home runs club, neither accomplishment was met as his career ended.  And while his numbers still rank very high, especially when compared to other third baseman that have reached the Hall of Fame, they could have been among the game’s elite if Chipper’s health maintained.

Happy Birthday Chipper!!!

I Love This Andrew McCutchen “Cutch Hair” Commerical.  Check It Out!!!

It’s nice to see McCutchen getting some national attention with the endorsements and commercials that have come his way in the last 2-3 years.

This new commercial titled ‘Cutch Hair’ is already a ’30-YOC’ classic.
