1984 HEADLINE: Kirby Puckett’s Debut A Hit, 4 Of Them!!!
On this day in 1984, Kirby Puckett made his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins.
And he got off to an incredible start to his professional career…
Going 4/4 on the day, Puckett electrified the faithful Minnesota Twins fans. Batting lead-off, Puckett went 4-for-5 while also scoring his first run and stealing his first base as well. Of the 4 hits, all of them were singles.
He left his debut game with an .800 batting average and Twins fans had an instant hero.
Happy Anniversary Mr. Puckett. Thanks for the memories!!!
I doubt any player had ever had such a MLB debut. Maybe a walk off home run would compare to going 4-5.
I’ve mentioned this before, but a while back one of the guys I work with made mention that Kirby Puckett wasn’t that good of a player. He admitted that he wasn’t real familiar w/ Kirby & just said that he didn’t understand why he was so popular. I put a fist full of stats in his face & then showed him some videos of Kirby’s speed, power & defense. Then reminded him of what Puckett did to the Cardinals in the 87 World Series. His reply, “Holy Shit!”
McGee-Fan51, Agreed. From the outside he did not look like he could dominate, but in the field he was most often the best in both lineups!!
