Florida Marlins 2007 Fleer Ultra Team Set

Florida Marlins 2007 Fleer Ultra Team Set

The Fleer Ultra brand of baseball cards sure did offer up some beauties!

Have a look at this Marlins team set from the 2007 issue:

This one is sweet!!

And I paid just $1.00 for it.  Not only is the set chock-full of sweet images, but the style of the card allows for the image to be the full focus with no gawdy design elements.

I also really like the mix of images used for the set – from Willis’ leg-kick to Hanley’s home run swing to Cabrera’s follow through.

It’s all good!  And a steal for just one dollar!

Joe Morgan 2014 Topps Gypsy Queen – Mini

Joe Morgan 2014 Topps Gypsy Queen – Mini

This is the second card of Joe Morgan that I have grabbed from the newly released 2014 Topps Gypsy Queen baseball card set.

This is the mini version of the base card:

Morgan has a few more for me to go after.  And now, with his mini out of the way, I am ready to chase the rest of them.

Sound good you ‘Lil Joe’??

1965 HEADLINE: Orioles’ Jim Palmer Wins 1st Major League Game And Connects For Home Run

1965 HEADLINE: Orioles’ Jim Palmer Wins 1st Major League Game And Connects For Home Run

On this day in 1965, the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees battled in front of 25,000+ fans in Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium.

Pitching in relief, a 19-year old Jim Palmer was making just his seventh appearance in a major league game.

He threw four innings of relief for the Orioles and the team supported him by scoring five runs and taking the lead against the Yankees.  Palmer also hit a 2-run home run in the game, off of Yankees’ pitcher Jim Bouton.

The O’s held on for the win, and Palmer secured the first victory of his major league career.

Palmer’s stat line looked like this:

Mound: 3.2 inning pitched, 2 hits allowed, 1 earned run, 4 walks and 1 strikeout
Plate: 1-for-1 with a 2-run home run

Happy Anniversary Mr. Palmer!!!

Jose Fernandez 2014 Topps ‘Spring Fever’ Redemption Card

Jose Fernandez 2014 Topps ‘Spring Fever’ Redemption Card

Mine may not have been obtained in the manner in which Topps of hobby shop owners would have liked, but it is what it is…

I’m happy to ‘get mine’.

This is the Jose Fernandez card from the 2014 Topps hobbu-shop exclusive set ‘Spring Fever’.  The set is in its second year and I really enjoy the ‘Spring’ feeling that the card’s graphics package offers.

The Magenta & Gold is a little too FSU for this Canes fan, but I will let it pass…  This Time!!
