And as we prepare to leave May behind and jump head-first into June, I am hoping that some positive news comes out of the Bryce Harper camp as he prepares for his return to the Nationals.

I have missed watching this guy play and I think baseball would be a better place with Harper on the field every night.

Come back soon, Bryce!!!

Did You Know…

The first player in Boston Red Sox franchise history to win the Rookie of the Year Award was Walt Dropo.  Dropo won the award in 1950 after playing in 136 games for the Red Sox and driving in 144 runs.

Happy Birthday Manny Ramirez!!!

Happy Birthday Manny Ramirez!!!

Manny Ramirez turns 41 years old today.

One of the most exciting players to have suited up over the last thirty years, Manny Ramirez blended the perfect amount of contact hitting, power hitting, and clutch hitting into his repertoire that made him a lot of fun to watch.

Unfortunately, suspension for the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs tarnished his image almost overnight and Manny went from being heralded as one of the game’s greatest offensive talents to a joke rather quickly.  A second suspension for the same infraction almost surely ended his route to the Hall of Fame and immediately changed the way he was viewed by the sport and its fans.

A 1-time shoe-in for the 3,000 hits club, the 600 home runs club, and the Hall of Fame, Ramirez is not battling for his image; an image that has been destroyed by failing two drug tests for steroids.

We wish you well Manny.  Thank you for the fun times while they lasted – it was a blast.

Happy Birthday!!

‘The Junior Junkie’ Fires Over Some Sweet Additions To The ’30-YOC’ Collection!!!

‘The Junior Junkie’ Fires Over Some Sweet Additions To The ’30-YOC’ Collection!!!

Last week I got a pretty sweet package in the mail from loyal ’30-YOC’ reader, TJ.  You may know him by the name of the blog he writes called ‘The Junior Junkie‘.

TJ sent over some pretty neat stuff.  I’ve got it all organized into three lots.

First, is the ‘Andre Dawson Oddball’ lot.  It is chock full of Dawson goodies from both new and old sets – mostly non-mainstream stuff too.

Have a peek:

While none of these cards were new additions to my collection of Dawson cards, they are certainly all welcomed additions!

Up next is a sweet 4-card lot of cards for my 1975 Topps set building project:

Awesome, vintage goodies right there!!  And all four cards fill holes on my want-list, which is especially nice.  Don’t worry, I will do them the justice that each of them deserves and give each card a random, future post on 30-YOC.

Up last is a very cool 2014 Topps Heritage ‘1965 Advertising Panel’ that features my favorite Marlin, Giancarlo Stanton.

These panels are very nice.  I’ve seen them come across Ebay from time to time, but did not really know how nice they were.  I’m really excited to have one now in my collection, and if the opportunity comes with more of the guys I collect on them in the future, I will no longer hesitate on scooping one or many up.

TJ, Thanks again brother – that was a great ‘Hook Up’!!!

I owe you one!!
