Jose Fernandez 2014 Bowman – Cuba State Variation
After nabbing and showing off the base card of Jose Fernandez from this year’s Bowman base set, I immediately sought out more cards of the reigning NL ROY.
And the first one that I grabbed was the ‘State’ version.
And I guess in Fernandez’s case, it could be tagged as the ‘Country’ version since he was born in Cuba.
Here is the card:
Fernandez’s story is unreal – and full of emotion. I’m proud to have this card as it truly embodies who he is as a player and a young man. And something tells me that he would probably crack a smile if he saw this card – he certainly has great memories of living in Cuba with his family, and he also has some incredible stories to tell about his journey to the US from there.
A fantastic, and instant classic, for my Jose Fernandez collection!!!

Lou Brock & His 1962 Topps Rookie Baseball Card
It is not his fault, not by any stretch, but Lou Brock’s rookie card is pretty bad.
Have a look:
As much as I like the 1962 Topps design, there is no escaping the horrible photo that accompanies Brock’s debut baseball card. It is awful!!
Still, I would love to own one. And yes, I would even take one of the many reprints that have been issued over the last decade+.
