Giancarlo Stanton 2014 Topps Series 2 – 1989 Die Cut Mini

Giancarlo Stanton 2014 Topps Series 2 – 1989 Die Cut Mini

It’s getting harder and harder to stay on top of my modern player collections.  Between the releases of Panini Przim, Topps Series 2, Topps Archives, and now Allen & Ginter, I am falling behind.

And it is a quick decent.

Still, I fight on.  Trying to grab singles as I can while still sticking to a budget and opting for only the best deals that I can find.

I picked up this card of Giancarlo Stanton for just $0.99 with FREE shipping – mission accomplished!

The card is from the 2014 Topps Series 2 release, and is part of the 1989 mini die-cut set.

I like the Orange border of the card and the Orange & Blue team and player name area works well with the image of Stanton that Topps chose for the card.

A very cool addition to my Stanton PC.

Happy Birthday CC Sabathia!!!

Happy Birthday CC Sabathia!!!

CC Sabathia turns 34 years old today.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, CC Sabathia always ranks as on the sport’s great pitchers, but he never quit gets the credit from the media for the tremendous efforts he has put into his 14+ season career.

Winning games at a 64% clip, Sabathia is a 6-time All-star and has won at least 13 games in 11 of his 14 seasons.

A dominant pitcher with very good control, CC hovers around the 2.8 K:walk ratio on a regular basis. And with a World Series championship under his belt, it should not be long before talk of him being one of the best of his generation starts.

It sounds like CC will be put on the shelf for the remainder of the 2014 baseball season.  Hopefully he can recover from his injuries and return to All-Star form in 2015.

Happy Birthday CC!!!!

Happy Birthday Dave ‘Hendu’ Henderson!!!

Happy Birthday Dave ‘Hendu’ Henderson!!!

Dave Henderson turns 56 years old today.

Quite possibly the most underrated player on the Oakland Athletics dynasty of the late 1980’s, Dave Henderson put up some monster numbers as a member of the ‘Bash Brothers’. Hendu had an all-around game and although he was not an all-star, his talent level and skills on the baseball diamond were not that far from his superstar teammates.

It must be rough playing on an a team and being compared to players like Rickey Henderson(no relation), Jose Canseco, and Mark McGwire. But Henderson did very well while in Oakland and helped lead the team to three consecutive World Series appearances.

Henderson’s greatest success came from his days with that powerful A’s offense, and he was a big contirbutor. In six seasons with the team, Hendu smacked 104 home runs, drove in 377 RBI, and scored 366 times. A truly well balanced player indeed!!!

For Hendu’s birthday, I thought I would try to help his cause out a little by posting an address where you can reach Mr. Henderson to obtain an autograph while also helping out a foundation he started that is trying to help find a cure for Angelman Syndrome. For any of you that would like to make a donation and at the same time add a great autograph to your collection, you can write to Dave Henderson at:

Pacific Northwest Angelman Syndrome Foundation, 12932 SE Kent-Kangley Rd #375 Kent, Washington, 98031

Happy Birthday Hendu!!!

My 2014 Topps Series 1 ‘Super Veterans’ Subset Is Complete!!!

My 2014 Topps Series 1 ‘Super Veterans’ Subset Is Complete!!!

Oh Yeah!!!  I am very, very excited to announce that I have completed another subset at ’30-YOC’.  And this time, it is a subset that means the world to me – Topps’ Super Veterans.

The original ‘Super Vets’ subset was part of the 1983 Topps set.  It has long been my favorite subset of all-time.  I built that set when I got back into the hobby five years ago, and I was extremely excited to see that Topps brought it back for their 2014 release.

Here is the completed 2014 version of ‘Super Veterans’:

I love it!!

And while there may be some questionable entries into the set as well as some notable omissions, I am very happy with the final product.  Yes, I had my fingers crossed that the set would expand into the Series 2 and Update sets but that does not look like it will be the case.

So, I will sit back and be proud of another subset completed.  A subset that I have been a fan of since 1983!
