1969 HEADLINE: Fergie Jenkins Strikes Out The 1,000th Batter Of His Career

On this day in 1969, Fergie Jenkins and the Chicago Cubs were on the road and facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in Southern California.

The Cubs were sporting a 71-42 record at the time and were in the process of trying to make a run at the National League crown with the goal of making the World Series.

Jenkins was the ace of the squad and on this day he battled in the Dodgers in front of a crowd of 38,000 fans.

Jenkins captured his 1,000 strikeout during the contest.  He struck out five on the day, which helped his eventual league-leading 273 strikeout tally by the end of the season.
