1980 HEADLINE: Jim Palmer Captures 2,000th Strikeout Of Career

On this day in 1980, Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jim Palmer collected the 2,000th strikeout of his major league career.

At home and facing the new York Yankees, Palmer entered the game with 1,998 career strikeouts.

The victim?

Reggie Jackson!  Yep, the Hall of Famer!

In the top of the 6th inning, Jackson became Palmer’s career 2,000 strikeout.  Palmer would end up having just 2 K’s in the contest, but was able to capture his 13th victory in the 6-5 win.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Palmer!!!
