1989 HEADLINE: Andre Dawson Collects Hit #2,000 Of MLB Career
On this day in 1989, Chicago Cubs All-Star outfielder Andre Dawson collected the 2,000th hit of his major league career.
On the road in Houston to face the Astros, Dawson entered the game needing just 1 hit to reach the milestone.
And that hit came pretty quickly. In the second inning, Dawson connected for a line-drive single to the outfield off of Astros pitcher Jim Clancy.
On the day, Dawson was 3-for-4 with 2 singles, a double, a stolen base, and a run scored. Sadly, the Cubs lost the game 6-5.
Happy Anniversary, Andre!!!
