Frank Robinson Is A 12-Time All-Star

When you consider that Frank Robinson played during an era that featured some of the greatest outfielders in the history of the game, it is an amazing feat that he made the All-Star team twelve times.

It’s a true compliment too!!

During those All-Star Games, Robinson shared space in the outfield with Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson, Carl Yastrezemski, Willie Stargell, Al Kaline, and Roberto Clemente.

  1. Supposedly a true story told to me by a former lab supervisor. He and another lab supervisor attended an All-Star game at either Cincinnati or Pittsburgh. I don’t recall the location. This would have been in the early 70’s. They were able to go into the hotel where the major league players were staying. The other lab supervisor was known, on occasion, to have a little too much to drink. According to the story passed down for years in the lab, the supervisor saw Frank Robinson in the lobby and went up to him to shake his hand. In the conversation he addressed Frank Robinson as Brooks. According to the reliable witness, Mr. Frank Robinson, graciously and calmly said, “Nice to meet you, I’m the black Robinson.” Needless to say until the lab supervisor retired many years later, sometime during baseball season, he would be reminded of his All-Star blunder.

    • Patrick- Interesting story there. I’ve heard that Robinson can be surly with the public if not in the right mood/setting. I’d be curious to know how his facial expression may have changed when called ‘Brooks’.
