1985 Topps Record Breakers – Card #1 – Carlton Fisk

1985 Topps Record Breakers – Card #1 – Carlton Fisk

Headline – Fisk Sets Record By Catching All 25 Innings Of Marathon

The Story – Chicago, Illinois, May 9, 1984:  White Sox backstop Carlton Fisk tonight set a record by catching all 25 innings of club’s 7-6 win vs. Brewers.  The former mark of 24 innings was originally set by A’s Mike Powers, 9-01-06 and then tied by A’s Buddy Rosar and Tigers’ Bob Swift on 7-21-45, Astros’ Hal King and Mets’ Jerry Grote, 4-15-68.

My added notes – During this 8 hour and 6 minute marathon, Fisk batted 12 times.  Yes, 12!!!  On the day/night, he went 3-for-11 with 1 double, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.

New Subset To Collect – 1985 Topps ‘Record Breakers’

New Subset To Collect – 1985 Topps ‘Record Breakers’

It has been well documented on this blog that the very first set I built as a kid was the 1985 Topps set.  And that is probably why, some 25 years later, that I still hold that set and its 792 cards in very high regard.

And while I have no interest in going after the complete set again, the ’85 issue did offer some great subsets.  And those, I will try to collect over time.

First, I went after and completed the ‘1st Draft Pick’ set.

So now, I will attempt to add the ‘Record Breakers’ subset to my collection.  This little subset is a 10-card doozie that celebrates many of the baseball milestones accomplished during the 1984 baseball season.  Full of All-stars and Hall of Famers, this one is going to be fun to go after!!!

Stay tuned as I will be bringing you each and every card from the 1985 Topps Record Breakers set!!!  Thanks.

New Subsets To Show Off!!!

With my 1985 Topps #1 Draft Picks subset complete, I sprinted to Ebay to see what other subsets I could find from my favorite decade.

And while the pickings were slim, I did stumble upon a few that I was able to scoop up for very low prices.

Without giving all of the details away, here are a few hints as to what you can expect to be seeing from me and ’30-YOC’ over the course of the off-season….

Nice, that one looks familiar…

Kinda cool – Has a nice Miami Vice-ish 80’s vibe going on…

Another one that I’ve seen before.  It should be good!!!

Ahhhhh.  Perfecto!!!

Let me say that going after these subsets has been a blast.  Whether it is collecting them card by card or getting lucky enough to find them completed and affordable, each and every one of these has brought back some wonderful memories of the stars of the 1980’s.

I look forward to sharing many more of these with you in the future.  Thanks.
