A Great Trade Lands Me Five New Cards For My Nolan Ryan & Hank Aaron Commemorative Sets!!!

A Great Trade Lands Me Five New Cards For My Nolan Ryan & Hank Aaron Commemorative Sets!!!

I had been having a bit of an issue adding cards to my 1999 Topps Nolan Ryan and 2000 Topps Hank Aaron commemorative sets.  The ones that I am finding are priced a bit higher than what I would like, and for the ones that I am finding that are affordable, they are no longer on my ‘Need List’.

Enter Ryan, of the blog ‘Another Orioles Blog’.

Ryan saw a post that I ran a few weeks ago in which I was offering up 2013 Topps Series One baseball cards for people who were building player collections, team sets, or the entire set.

Ryan and I exchanged a few emails and we had a deal struck.

I sent him a nice stack of cards for his 2013 Topps set, and he sent me some cards for both of these commemorative sets that I am building from scratch.

First, let me show you the Nolan Ryan cards he sent:

RYAN TRADE 1

And now, the Hank Aaron:

Five awesome cards!!  Five X’s added to my checklists.

Thanks again Ryan, your generosity is greatly appreciated!!!

Nolan Ryan 1999 Topps Commemorative Set – Card #4 – 1971 Topps Design

This card came to me by way of a trade with Ryan, creator of the blog – ‘Oh, no! Another Orioles Blog’.  Ryan saw that I was building this Nolan Ryan commemorative set and he had some cards to spare.  In exchange for this card, I offered him a healthy stack of 2013 Topps cards for his set.

This is the 4th card in the set, a re-print of Nolan Ryan’s 1971 Topps baseball card:

NOLAN RYAN 1971 REPRINT

The 1971 baseball season would be Nolan Ryan’s final season as a member of the New York Mets.  After playing for the team for five seasons, Ryan compiled a career record of 29-38 with the club.  Ryan had yet to become a consistent pitcher – he ERA of 3.58 was high and his control was still a major issue – 493 strikeouts to 344 walks is far from pretty…

Nolan Ryan was traded from the Mets to the California Angels during the offseason of 1971.  Almost immediately, he began to shine!!!

And Finally, Here Are The Checklists For The 1999 Topps Nolan Ryan And 2000 Topps Hank Aaron Commemorative Sets…

Two of my 2013 collecting goals was to go after, and complete, the 1999 and 2000 Topps Nolan Ryan and Hank Aaron commemorative sets.

I have been enamored with these sets for some time, and I look forward to the challenge that lies ahead of me.

I have a slight head-start on both of these projects as I already own a few of the cards on the checklist.  I found them in bargain bins at past baseball card shows, and to be honest, those purchases inspired me to go after both sets.

So, here are both checklists that I will be working with:

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – Lot Of 7 1999 Topps Nolan Ryan Commemorative Edition Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – Lot Of 7 1999 Topps Nolan Ryan Commemorative Edition Cards

The dealer with the fifty cents bins had 8-10 2-row boxes for me to go through.  I did not get through all of them, but for the ones that I did manage to shuffle through, I pulled out some sweet cards.

Including these seven cards of Hall of Famer, Nolan Ryan.

Have a look:

These cards come from a special Commemorative set issued by Topps in 1999.  The set is contains 27 total cards, and based on what I pulled, I believe that each card is a re-print of one of Ryan’s Topps base cards.

The seven cards that I bought represent Ryan’s 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1990, and 1991 Topps cards.

And they all feature a sweet looking golden Nolan Ryan logo.

I tried to scan it, but it did not come out too well…

I think I have more of these in my collection; I will dig through this week and see if I can uncover any more of them.  If so, this may be the start of a new set at ’30-YOC’!!!!
