Andrew McCutchen 2014 Panini Elite – Series 2

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Panini Elite – Series 2

From what I have seen thus far, the 2014 Panini Elite set packs a punch with action-filled images.

I’ve already shown off the cards of Bryce Harper and Dustin Pedroia that I have picked up from this issue.

And now, here is card #3 – Andrew McCutchen:

Another sweet one!

And I am really starting to like the ‘E’ backdrop that Panini has used with the graphic package for this set.

I will say that I wish McCutchen’s uniform had some Yellow accents on it as that would add a drop of color that I think the card is missing.  Other than that, I am digging it!

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Donruss – Series 2

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Donruss – Series 2

I scooped up a relatively small stack of cards from the newly released 2014 Donruss Series 2 set two weeks ago.

All modern players, you better believe that I snagged the card of the reigning NL MVP for my collection.

Here is the card of #22:

I like the action on this one – it shows that powerful back-swing that we have grown used to seeing from McCutchen.

As for the cards itself, since it follows the exact design as the Series 1 issue, I still see way too much of a mix between 1984 Donruss, 1987 Donruss, and even 1978 Topps.

Very little originality.

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Topps Allen & Ginter ‘Pastime’s Pastime’

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Topps Allen & Ginter ‘Pastime’s Pastime’

I am almost 100% done going after cards from the 2014 Topps Allen & Ginter baseball card set.

Unless I come across some of the more limited print cards of the main guys that I collect, I have no plans to keep shopping for cards from the set.

During my last purchase of cards from, I did grab a few that I did not obtain during my primary A&G buy.

Among that lot is this sweet card of Andrew McCutchen from the ‘Pastime’s Pastime’ subset.

Have a look:

The theme of the card is neat, but I find them to be a bit too dark overall.  I will say that the White, home uniform that Cutch is wearing in this shot helps put the attention directly where it should be – on him!  Some of the other ones that I have picked up that show players in darker uniforms do not work nearly as well…

Happy Birthday Andrew McCutchen!!

Happy Birthday Andrew McCutchen!!

Andrew McCutchen celebrates his 28th birthday today.

One of baseball’s brightest young stars, and the heart and soul of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Andrew McCutchen is a player that can do it all.  From hitting to fielding to running, and everything in between, McCutchen excels at it all.  And with two consecutive postseason appearance in a row, he takes his entire team along for the ride.

Having just completed his 6th big league season, McCutchen is already a 4-time All-Star, Gold Glove winner, Silver Slugger winner, and league MVP.  The sky is truly his limit.

Happy Birthday Cutch!

Andrew McCutchen 2011 Topps Heritage – A Thing Of Beauty!!!

Andrew McCutchen 2011 Topps Heritage

Sometimes you don’t need a lot of words to explain the value and beauty found in a work of art.

I believe that this is one of those times.

I will let the cardboard do the talking.

2012 Bowman Top Picks With Andrew McCutchen & George Springer

2012 Bowman Top Picks With Andrew McCutchen & George Springer

These side-by-side Bowman ‘Top Picks’ cards are pretty neat.

Have a look:

The cards offer a fun way to compare recent draft picks, and ultimately see which teams have solid foundations for the future due to good drafting and which teams do not.

Both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros seem to be getting it more right than wrong as both teams have shown signs of promise with their young talent taking center stage.

I’ll be interested to see how Springer rebounds next season.  Count him as one of the many young guys that I will be tuned into…

Andrew McCutchen 2013 Panini Triple Play – Red Border Sticker

Andrew McCutchen 2013 Panini Triple Play – Red Border Sticker

This is the second of two cards, stickers, that I picked up of Andrew McCutchen from the 2013 Panini Triple Play set.

And, again, while something I would not purposely focus on adding into my collection, as an accessory for just $0.18 each, it is a nice addition.

Have a look:

Featuring the same image, cartoon, as the card I showed off a few weeks back, this one has a Red border and lacks some of the graphic elements that the base card brings.  Other than that, it’s almost identical.

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Panini Prizm

Andrew McCutchen 2014 Panini Prizm

Gotta love the action packed into this card of Andrew McCutchen.  This card is from the 2014 Panini Prizm baseball card set and because of the style of image used, you hardly realize that the card does not feature a Pittsburgh Pirates logo or symbol.

Have a look:

Panini’s Prizm product is a solid set.  And if they keep selecting images like the one above of the reigning NL MVP, the fan base of the product should only grow.

Great job Panini.  I am a fan!

Andrew McCutchen 2012 Topps ‘Golden Moments’

Andrew McCutchen 2012 Topps ‘Golden Moments’

Even while hurt since being hit in the ribs a month ago, Andrew McCutchen has still put together a fantastic performance in 2014 after his MVP-winning 2013 season.

‘Cutch’ can do it all – and all well above average (closer to elite).

He is a player that the Pirates will continue to build around, and as long as his health is in tact, they will continue to thrive with him as their leader.  I’d love to see Pittsburgh develop their young pitching into stars – both Cole & Tailon appear to have the skills to help ensure wins.

And with #22 leading the offense, I would like to see the Pirates remain playoff-relevant for years to come…

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Lot Of (3) 2014 Topps Chrome Cards – McCutchen, Machado, Fernandez

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Lot Of (3) 2014 Topps Chrome Cards – McCutchen, Machado, Fernandez

My modern card dealer at the show usually breaks a few boxes of each new product right when it is released.  He will typically pull the major hits from the box and sell the balance off for just a quarter each.

I’ve been able to grab a lot of great cards from him this way, and at the show I grabbed three cards from the 2014 Topps Chrome set for my modern player collections.

From left to right, you have the Chrome cards of Manny Machado, Jose Fernandez, and Andrew McCutchen.

Not a bad score for just seventy-five cents, huh?!?!

Time to go find the Stanton, Harper, and Pedroia cards…
