Miami Marlins 2012 Topps Stickers Team Set

Miami Marlins 2012 Topps Stickers Team Set

In 2012, Topps issued a set of miniature sized stickers in a large set format.

I scored the Marlins team set from the 2013 set when it was released earlier in the year, but I never went back to get the original.

That is until now.

The 2012 set consists of 8 player stickers, 1 mascot sticker, and 1 team logo sticker that is split in half and shared with another team (the Marlins are paired up with the Rays).

Have a look:

Fast forward to the end of the 2013 baseball season and 6 of the 8 players are no longer on the team, Mike wants to be called Giancarlo, and Billy ‘The Marlin’ is the most recognizable member of the team.

I like this set, it is a nice departure from baseball cards.  I just need to make sure that my kids do not get a hold of them as they will surely be stuck to notebooks, place mats, and homework in a matter of minutes…

Miami Marlins 2012 Topps Archives Team – What Could Have Been…

Miami Marlins 2012 Topps Archives Team Set

The 2012 Topps Archives team set is a harsh reminder of ‘What Could Have Been’.

The six is just six cards deep, but it features five players that are no longer calling Miami their home team.

Here is the full 6-card set.

Heath Bell is eating burgers in Arizona.

Josh Johnson is allowing tons of runs in Toronto.

Hanley Ramirez is rehabbing in Los Angeles.

Jose Reyes is getting hurt stealing bases north of the border.

Anibal Sanchez is making millions on his way to another World Series.

And then there is Giancarlo Stanton – the Last Man Standing!!!

I know, I know, what took me so long??  Well, it is actually fairly simple – I have needed just one card to complete this set.  And it took me almost two months to get it.

The card?

Matt Dominguez.

Yep, the guy that barely scratched the surface in Miami.  He’s no longer with the team as he was dealt to the Astros in the Carlos Lee trade in July.

Here is the full 9-card set:

Now I just need to decide if I want to go after the other Marlins cards from the set – minis, subsets, relics, etc.

Time to review the checklist, again…  🙂

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Miami Marlins 2012 Bowman Team Set

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Miami Marlins 2012 Bowman Team Set

Purchases 2, 3, and 4 were all made with the same dealer.  And #5 was too!

As I mentioned in prior posts, this dealer was super-organized with his cards.  And I spent a lot of time in his ‘Marlins’ box.

I pulled a good little handful of cards from this section of cards and in the cards that I pulled was the complete Marlins team set from the new 2012 Bowman issue.

The set consists of 9 cards, with 2 of them tagged as ‘1st Bowman Card’ for the prospects.

Have a look at the set:

I have to hand it to Bowman, the cards are so much better than the version I am more familiar with that debuted in 1989.  The cardstock is sharp, the finish is glossy, and the images are as crisp and clean as any release I have seen.

A great addition to my Marlins Team Set Album.

When a dealer is organized, and I mean truly organized, I am prone to spend more time and money with him and his cards than that of other non-organized dealers.

One of the new dealers that I met at the show was uber-organized; my kind of guy.  And I spent a majority of my time and cash with him and his cards.

He had all of the new releases, and everything was organized by team.

I jumped into the Marlins section and pulled out this 4-card team set from the 2012 Bowman Platinum issue.

Have a look:

Not bad for $1.00!!!

Lo Viste!!!
