The ace of the Washington Nationals has a new home.

Panini America announced on Tuesday that it has signed Stephen Strasburg to an exclusive autograph deal.

Terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed. The right-hander was previously a Topps-exclusive player beginning in 2010, when he captivated the baseball world with his dominating debut that was later derailed by injury.

“Stephen Strasburg is one of the most dominant pitchers in the game today; and one of baseball’s most popular and collected players,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop in a prepared release. “His exclusive presence in our licensed MLBPA trading card releases is a huge development for us and will add even more excitement to our roster of products. We’re honored that Stephen has entrusted us – exclusively – to represent and protect the integrity and collectability of his autographed trading cards.”

Strasburg, a 15-game winner last season, will have his first autographs in 2012 Prizm, which arrives in April. There, he will appear in his USA Baseball uniform. Panini also has the USA license locked up exclusively.

Strasburg appears on 942 different baseball cards from his career valued at more than $24,700. He appears on exactly 150 certified autograph cards.

“I’m excited to announce my relationship with an innovative company like Panini and deliver my autographs to baseball collectors exclusively in Panini trading card products,” Strasburg said. “I’m looking forward to working with Panini and joining the ranks of their other exclusive athletes for trading cards.”

Strasburg is the company’s first exclusive baseball player. He joins the likes of Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving from the NBA and Andrew Luck of the NFL, who is a Panini Authentic(memorabilia) autograph-exclusive player.

Contest Time: Predict The All-Star Game MVP And WIN, WIN, WIN!!!!

Contest Time: Predict The All-Star Game MVP And WIN, WIN, WIN!!!!

The name of this contest says it all!!!
For this contest, I will be asking the readers to choose a player slated to play in Tuesday’s All-Star game that they feel will win the game’s Most Valuable Player award.  It’s really just that simple.

The rules are easy.  Each reader gets to select one player on either the American League roster to National League roster.  Once a player has been selected they cannot be chosen again.  I will close the selections at 11:59 on Sunday night so I can publish a final list of the readers participating in this contest and the player they’re pulling for prior to the start of the game Tuesday evening.

Sound like fun?  Then get going and pick your guy.  All you have to do is review the rosters and submit the name of the player you are picking into the comments section of this post.

That’s it – I told you it would be easy!!!

And the winner of this contest will get this:

Oh yeah, Baby!!!   A 4-card Game-Used Jersey and Bat lot featuring former All-Stars Barry Larkin, Joe Carter, Gaylord Perry, and Roberto Alomar!!!

Sound like a good prize to you???  I hope so!!!

So get going.  Make your pick and leave it in the comments section of this post.

‘Opening Day Contest’ WINNERS!!!

‘Opening Day Contest’ WINNERS!!!

While ‘Opening Day’ may not have been as action packed as we all may have desired, it certainly was full of some great baseball – and unreal pitching, too!!!

But let’s get down to what matters most – the winners of my ‘Opening Day Contest’.

There were 6 home runs hit on Opening Day, so the player with the closest number of home runs hit was Stephen, who selected 7.  Stephen wins this great looking Game-Used Bat Card of Billy Williams.

And the pitchers were very sharp today.  In fact, there were 117 strikeouts during all of the day’s action.  So, with the prediction of 106, Stephen wins this great Manufactured Patch Card of Jim Palmer.

Congratulations to both Stephen and Stephen.  Hey, wait a minute – Did Stephen win both prizes??  Why, Yes He Did!!!

Congratulations, Stephen!!!

Thanks to everyone who played in this year’s ‘Opening Day Contest’.  Please stay tuned as my next contest is just a week or so away – and it will be a doozie, trust me!!!

I hope you all enjoyed Opening Day.  But more than that, I hope my Marlins enjoy their day off on Friday – Let’s get some hits fellas!!!

30-Year Old Cardboard’s 2012 ‘OPENING DAY CONTEST’!!!!

30-Year Old Cardboard’s 2012 ‘OPENING DAY CONTEST’!!!!

I’m not sure what the people who create baseball’s schedule were thinking, but the 2012 calendar is a little rough to look at – especially the first few days…

So, I am officially calling April 5th the ‘Opening Day’ of the 2012 season.

And with that announcement, I am bringing you a contest that you are going to want to get in on – Trust Me.

One, or possibly even both, of these cards can be yours if you win!!!

Here is how the contest will work.

First, you should review the schedule for Opening Day on April 5th – here is a link.

Ok, now on to the contest…

You will have to supply me with two numbers – (1) is the number of home runs that you predict will be hit on Opening Day and (2) is the number of strikeouts that you predict will be recorded on Opening Day.

Please keep your selections in this format – (X) HRs,( X) Ks so I know which number you have selected for each category.

If you are the player that comes the closest to predicting the correct number of Home Runs hit on April 5, without going over, you will win this:

And if you are the player that comes the closest to correctly predicting the number of strikeouts recorded on April 5, without going over, you will win this:

Up for grabs are some great relic cards featuring Hall of Famers Billy Williams and Jim Palmer.

Maybe you will win one of them.  Or, if you are really, really on with your predictions, you can win BOTH!!!!

So, get going and make your predictions.  Simply leave a comment on this post telling me how many home runs and how many strikeouts you predict will occur on Opening Day.

I will take all picks up until midnight of April 4.

Good Luck to everyone and ‘Thanks for playing’!!!!

Stephen Strasburg Picked For 1st Opening Day Start

Stephen Strasburg Picked For 1st Opening Day Start

VIERA, Fla. (AP)—Stephen Strasburg has been picked by the Washington Nationals to make his first opening-day start, on April 5 at the Chicago Cubs.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson made the announcement Tuesday, a day after the 23-year-old had his best outing of spring training. He allowed one run and two hits in five innings against the New York Mets, striking out three and walking one.

Newcomer Gio Gonzalez will follow Strasburg in the rotation, starting April 7 in Chicago. Johnson didn’t reveal the rest of his rotation, but it currently is lined up to have right-hander Jordan Zimmermann pitch the third game, followed by right-hander Edwin Jackson. If healthy, right-hander Chien-Ming Wang would be the fifth starter.
