Manny Machado 2014 Topps Archives

Manny Machado 2014 Topps Archives

No, I am not trying to turn myself into a ‘Machado Super-Collector’.  At least not yet…

But, when I saw this card, I had to grab one for my collection.

As you see below, the colors and the Topps 1986 design are simply a perfect match.

Have a look:

First off, you have the three main colors of the card – Black, Orange, and White.  It all just works well toegther – from the lettering on the top of the card to the bill on Machado’s helmet and everything in between.

And the image selection is sweet too.  Not only did Topps give us an image that works, but they centered it perfectly.  We’ve all seen #13 make this sign after connecting for a home run, and Topps captured it perfectly.

Nicely done, Topps.  Nicely done.

Million Dollar Question – Are You A ‘Gypsy Guy’ OR A ‘Ginter Guy’

Million Dollar Question – Are You A ‘Gypsy Guy’ OR A ‘Ginter Guy’

I know where I stand on this, but I am eager to see where the readers of the blog are.

So, my question tonight is very simple:  Are You A ‘Gypsy Guy’ OR A ‘Ginter Guy’??

Sound off now.

Manny Machado 2013 Topps Allen & Ginter ROOKIE CARD!!

Manny Machado 2013 Topps Allen & Ginter ROOKIE CARD!!

During a recent purchase on Ebay, I picked up a Jim Palmer card that I will show off later this week.  The seller was offering FREE Shipping on all single card purchases so I perused what he had to offer and I ran across this card of Manny Machado from the 2013 Topps Allen & Ginter set.

I scooped it up for just $1.99.

And now, it is home with me.

I am eager to see how Machado does during Spring Training this year.  Coming off of major surgery, I hope the team plays it right and slowly gets him acclimated back to becoming an everyday player again.

I pray that he/they do not rush this process.  I’d much rather see him play in 150+ games during the regular season than rush through the Spring and suffer any setbacks.

And after 2014, the O’s need to strongly consider extending his contract through the remainder of the decade…

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Lot Of 6 New 2013 Allen & Ginter Cards For My Player Collections!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Lot Of 6 New 2013 Allen & Ginter Cards For My Player Collections!!!

For as popular as the Allen & Ginter baseball card brand is, I was expecting to see more singles being sold at the show.

Before making a single purchase, I quickly walked all of the tables to see how many dealers were selling singles from this release as I had a few goals from that set that I wanted to make sure that I shopped.  The number was 2.  There were a handful of guys selling boxes, but for singles just 2.

Thankfully, one of them is my favorite seller at the show and he had held some singles for me because he knows the guys that I like.

The lot that he held for me included Frank Robinson, Joe Morgan, Jim Palmer, Fergie Jenkins, and Andre Dawson – all base cards.  I pulled the Giancarlo Stanton card from his box of loose singles giving me six cards from the new A&G set for my player collections.

SHOW 1

I did make another buy from him that is Ginter-themed, and I will show that off a but later today.  Stay tuned for that…

2011 Topps Allen & Ginter Florida Marlins Team Set – Kind Of A Joke!!!

2011 Topps Allen & Ginter Florida Marlins Team Set

I keep building up inventory of Florida and Miami Marlins team sets.  And I have to say that my binder is filling up rather nicely.

The latest addition to my Marlins team set collection is from the 2011 Topps Allen & Ginter set.  The set features 9 cards in total, and while I am not a big fan of the A&G brand, I will admit that a full sheet of these cards looks pretty nice.

Here is the complete set:

With just 9 players being featured, I thought it would be fun to provide a quick update on the players included in the set.  You’re going to see just how hard it is to stay ‘on top of’ the Marlins as a team…

Chris Coghlan – stuck in the minors leagues rehabbing injuries

Scott Cousins – most famous for ending Buster Posey’s 2011 season. Recently released by the team

Josh Johnson – Back from injury, Johnson went 8-14 in 2012

Omar Infante – Last seen playing 2B for the Detroit Tigers in the World Series

Logan Morrison – Rehabbing another knee surgery. More famous for his Twitter account than anything he has done on the baseball field as of yet

Brett Sinkbeil – Appeared in just 3 major league games, back in 2010. Has not played in the majors since

Hanley Ramirez – traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2012 baseball season

Ozzie Martinez – traded for manager Ozzie Guillen prior to the start of the 2012 season. Guillen was fired after one year with the team

Javier Vazquez – Retired at the end of the 2011 baseball season

So, in a nutshell, there are just two players in this 9-card set of Marlins that are still on the team.  Some of the players included by Topps with this team set are very questionable – Sinkbeil, Martinez, Cousins, and more…  These guys don’t conjure up any good Marlins memories for this fan!!!

I’ve told you before, it is very tough to be a Marlins fan!!!!

UncleMoe Takes Me Fishing!!!

UncleMoe Takes Me Fishing!!!

With the recent release of 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter issue, I have been patiently waiting to see who has pulled some Marlins cards that they may be willing to part with.

I picked up three packs of the stuff myself, scored 1 Marlins (make that former Marlin in Gaby Sanchez), but the rest of the stuff became available to my readers.

Well, pretty soon after I offered them up, one of my blogging-buddies “UncleMoe” told me that he threw two fish in the mail for me.

And they arrived yesterday.

And amazingly, you can ship fish from Arizona to Florida, without ice, and they are still fresh!!!

Have a look:

Two great ones that go towards building my team set.

Thank you Moe, I owe you two!!!!

Three Packs Of 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter Nets Me Nothing… And Now They Can Be Yours!!!!

Three Packs Of 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter Nets Me Nothing…

Let me start by saying that I am not really that big of a fan of the Allen & Ginter brand.  I understand that I am probably in the minority with that comment, and that is fine.  To each, his own.

Over the past week, I have read no less than eleven blogger reviews of the 2012 Allen & Ginter release, and I wanted to get in on the action.

So, while having to grab a few random things at Wal-Mart this morning, I also scooped up three packs of A&G.

The cards are nice, but I am not wild about the design.  I do like the card stock that Topps uses for this set, and the lack of a supremely glossy finish is a nice change.  But that is about it.

3 packs = 18 cards

And here they are:

And there you have it.  No major hits…

The Neftali Feliz mini is the A&G version, and I was happy to grab at least one Miami Marlins card (albeit of a player that is stuck in the minor leagues).

So, after going through these cards a few times, I have decided that I really don’t need or want them.

Consider them up for grabs!!!

And to get them, simply make me an offer.  I would love to receive the Jim Palmer or Reggie Jackson cards from this issue – I will offer all of these (sans the Gaby Sanchez card) up for either a Palmer, a Reggie, or any of the other Marlins cards in the set.

Who wants in???   Leave me a comment if you do!!!
