HOO-RAY!!! My 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Glove Stories’ Subset Is Complete!!

HOO-RAY!!!  My 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Glove Stories’ Subset Is Complete!!

Friends, another baseball card subset has been completed at ’30-YOC’.

This time around it is the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Glove Stories’ set and the finished product looks incredible.

Here is the full 10-card set:

What I like best about this subset is that the images that the cards offer give us shots of highlights many of us have seen multiple times.  To be able to recall a single play or moment of a game simply by seeing a picture on a baseball card is pretty neat.

The coloring offered in this set stay true to the Gypsy Queen look and design.  And the added element of the baseball glove leather and stitching was executed very well by Topps.

My lone is issue with the set is that it is ten cards deep.  And that means that once  the cards are pulled from the penny sleeves I use when scanning my cards and inserted into 9-pocket pages, 1 card will get the shaft and be forced to sit alone on the back of the page.  Sheesh…

Adding Three More Subsets To The ’30-YOC’ Roster. Come See!!

Adding Three More Subsets To The ’30-YOC’ Roster. Come See!!

Well friends, it is time.  Time to expand the collection a bit as I am very close to knocking off some subsets that I have been building over the last few months.

So, I am going to begin working on three more subsets to keep things going.

And let me tell, you that it took me some time to narrow it down to just three as I have been eyeing more than a dozen subsets.  In time, I will more than likely go after all of them.  But for now, I will keep it at the manageable number of three.

Are you ready??

Great.  Time to unveil.

Here we go…

2011 Topps ‘Prime 9 – Player Of The Week’

2013 Topps Update ‘Postseason Heroes’

Trust me when I tell you that I did not go after these sets because they all feature Derek Jeter (not a complaint that they do, though).  It did, however, work out well for grabbing the images I needed to show off my choices to you…

I cannot wait to get started on these subsets.  I am a huge fan of the ‘Topps Prime 9’ series and the ‘Player of the Week’ set will be a nice set to put alongside my recently completed ‘Prime 9 Home Run Legends’ set.  And as you know, Gypsy Queen is my favorite current Topps brand so there was no doubt in my mind that I would be tackling another subset from a recent GQ release.  And lastly, the Topps ‘Postseason Heroes’ set has the promise to be a great one.  I have examined the checklist, and while I wish it was a bit bigger in scale, I am excited about the set and I cannot wait to see all of the cards in person.

So, as the weeks and months push forward, so will I.  And I will take you with me each and every step of the way.

Enjoy the subsets, everyone.  I know that I will too!!

One More Subset Complete: 2012 Topps ‘Prime 9 – Home Run Legends’ YES!!!

One More Subset Complete: 2012 Topps ‘Prime 9 – Home Run Legends’  YES!!!

This set was a lot of fun to put together.  I really enjoyed digging into each of these guy’s career home run accomplishments.  And I learned quite a bit through that process.

The set features just 9 cards, but it fills an album page perfectly.

Here is a look at the complete set:

The cards are sharp.  They are shiny.  And they really stand out.

I wish that Topps continued this set past just the 2011 and 2012 seasons, I could easily think of 5-6 more themes that I would love for them to share with us that follow the same format.

Thankfully, they did give us one more.  Their ‘Prime 9 – Players Of The Week’ subset that was also issued in 2011 is on my radar!!

If anyone can assist me with these new collecting endeavors, I would be greatly appreciative!!  Let me know and we will work something out.

A Few New Subsets To Tackle!!!

A Few New Subsets To Tackle!!!

I’ve eluded to this for a few weeks now that some of the subsets I had been working on for a while have been conquered.

So, without further ado, I am ready to announce the next group of subsets that I am preparing to build.

And yes, I plan on taking you with me on the journey.  So, buckle up – here they are:

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Wall Climbers’

subset wall climber

2012 Topps ‘Prime 9 – Home Run Legends’

subset prime 9

2013 Topps Archives ‘Tallboys’

subset tallboy

2013 Topps Archives ‘1972 Basketball Design’

subset 72 basketball

2013 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Collisions At The Plate’

subset collisions

A pretty nice crop of subset themes and designs, huh???

If anyone can help me get these started I would be extremely grateful and would immediately work on a way to repay the kindness!

This is going to be a lot of fun.  Stay tuned!!!!

I Was Going To Wait To Debut The Next Round Of Subsets I Am Collecting, But I Don’t Feel Like Waiting…

I Was Going To Wait To Debut The Next Round Of Subsets I Am Collecting, But I Don’t Feel Like Waiting…

As the title suggests, I am ready to jump in and starting putting together a few more subsets.  They come from various releases from 2012, and I want to start working on them now while the cards can still be found pretty easily.

As you know, I am already building the 2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ and ‘Mound Dominance’ sets.  And while I prefer to take on just a few of these kinds of projects at a time, I am ready to start these next three right now; especially since I am sure that 2013 will offer me more that I will want to put together too…

So, here are the three subsets I am going to start piecing together:

2012 Topps Archives ‘1977 Cloth Stickers’:

archives sticker

2012 Topps Archives ‘Deckle Edge’:

archives deckle

2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Moonshots’:

gypsy moonshots

This is going to be a lot of fun!!  Each of these subsets look great, and the two from the 2012 Topps Archives set take us right back to baseball card collecting from the past.

It is now time for me to build the checklists and go through the cards that I own with the hopes of possibly having a few in my collection that can fill voids on the new checklists.

Wish me luck!  And if you have any cards from these subsets that you don’t need, send me a note.  Maybe we can work out a trade.

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – The Start To My 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘MOONSHOTS’ Subset

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – The Start To My 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘MOONSHOTS’ Subset

The 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen subset tagged as ‘Moonshots’ is one that I have kept my eye on since its release last year.

The set has been on my ‘potential subsets’ list to collect and I had every plan of making that a reality.

Well, I was able to rescue eight cards from that set from the ten-cent bargain bins.

So, for just eighty cents, I officially got my start!!!

Here are the eight that I pulled:

The complete set is 20 cards deep , so I am already officially 40% done.  And this is one that I will attempt to complete this year.

If you wanted to see what the full set looks like completed, click here.  It looks great, and I cannot wait to complete it myself!!

If Topps Decided To Bring Back Their ‘Super Veterans’ Subset In 2013 For the 30th Anniversary, Who Should Be On The Checklist??

If Topps Decided To Bring Back Their ‘Super Veterans’ Subset In 2013 For the 30th Anniversary, Who Should Be On The Checklist??

The Super Veterans set that was part of the 1983 Topps baseball card set is my favorite in-set subset of all-time.

It was the first subset that I built when returning to the hobby a few years ago, and I think that it can hold up when compared to any/all in-set subsets issued during the 1980’s.

2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the ‘Super Veterans’ set and nothing would make this collector happier than to see Topps pay homage to their roots and give us another version of the same set.  Maybe in their base set?  Maybe in Archives?  Either way, I would love to see it done.

Now, that opens up the question of who belongs in the set.

So, I thought it would be fun to try to build a checklist with the great readers of this blog.

To keep it open to as many opinions as possible, but to limit the number of cards in the set, let’s say for argument’s sake that the set is to contain 20 players.

Sound good to you??

Great!!  I’ll start the checklist by adding two players: Jim Thome and Mariano Rivera.

Who else should be added?  Let me hear it!!

And just in case you need a little inspiration, here is a look at the first subset that I completed when I got back into the hobby:

2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ Checklist

2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ Checklist

Well, if you have not heard yet, the next subset that I will be featuring on the blog is a modern one.  Very modern.

The 2012 Topps set includes a fantastic 25-card set that is tagged as ‘Career Day’.  Each of the cards features a horizontal design, and fantastic color and photo options.  When the cards first came out, I grabbed singles of the players that I collect – Reggie, Frank, Bench, and others.

And then I saw a few of the guys that I do not collect – and they looked pretty sweet too.

And after quickly analyzing the complete checklist, I knew it would be a fun set to build.

I have a few purchases to make to get this set built, but I am up to the challenge.  And I cannot wait to start.

Here is a look at the full checklist:

  • CD-1 Albert Pujols
  • CD-2 Ken Griffey
  • CD-3 Al Kaline

Time To Unveil The Next Subset That I Will Be Collecting!!!

Time To Unveil The Next Subset That I Will Be Collecting!!!

Ok, so maybe I won’t unveil the subset.

Maybe I will just tease it a little bit – you know to build up the excitement for all of us.

I will say that this set is beautiful.  I have a few singles already in my collection and they have inspired me to collect the set in full.

I still need to put the checklist together, but I am guessing that should not be too hard.

And after that, I can start collecting!!!

For now, I will leave you with the lone hint about the set.

Here you go:

Any guesses???
