2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ Subset – Card #14 – Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ Subset – Card #14 – Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

I am working on this set because I find it to be the most appealing of the subsets issued by Topps in 2012.

The cards feature bold colors, great images, and a unique horizontal design.

I especially like the ‘Career Day’ theme as it pays homage to some of the greatest individual performances of baseball’s elite players.

Card #14 – Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

CAREER DAY 14

The Career Day – June 24, 2010.  On this day in 2010, Dustin Pedroia matched a feat that had been only accomplished one other time in major league baseball history; Jimmie Foxx in 1919.  Pedroia went 5-for-5 with three home runs, a double, a single, and a walk as his team battled the Colorado Rockies during inter-league play.  His third home run came in the 10th inning of the game, and gave the Sox the win with his 5th RBI of the game.

Progress – 14/25

Bob Uecker 2001 Topps Archives – FAIL!!!

Bob Uecker 2001 Topps Archives – FAIL!!!

You all know that I love this set.

But this card is horrible.  It actually looks like a downgrade in this collector’s eyes.

I guess that it was bound to happen, right??  I mean, Topps was so ‘on’ with this set – great design, excellent photo choices, and well though out player choices.

This one must have snuck by the editor during a very late  night…

Sorry, Mr. Uecker.

1984 Headline: Pete Rose Returns To Cincinnati!!!

1984 Headline: Pete Rose Returns To Cincinnati!!!

When this headline hit the papers 25+ years ago I am pretty certain that the feeling in the Cincinnati area was one of sheer joy!!!

A former baseball star was coming back to the city to once again play for and now manage the team that he helped become one of baseball’s greatest dynasties.

What a ride Pete took Reds’ fans on once he came back to the team.  From making history by becoming the game’s all-time hits leader to being banished from the game for gambling.

No matter how you look at it and how you feel about Pete Rose today, you must admit that this was a historic day for the sport back in 1984!!!

Who Would Have Thought That The 2011 All-Star Game Will Be Played Without Albert Pujols & Ichiro Suzuki?? Not Me!!

Who Would Have Thought That The 2011 All-Star Game Will Be Played Without Albert Pujols & Ichiro Suzuki??  Not Me!!

I am really looking forward to watching this year’s major league All-Star game.

While I may not agree with all of the players that were voted into the starting line-ups, I enjoy the fact that we as fans get a say in who we want to see play.

And I have to say that the reserves and pitchers named for the game are pretty solid too.  Sure, like always, there are players that have been snubbed, but overall, the rosters feature some great legends as well as some very strong up-and-comers.

But there are some shocking absences from the game.

No CC Sabathia….

No Evan Longoria…

No Mark Teixiera…

No Ryan Howard….

And unbelievably, no Albert Pujols or Ichiro Suzuki!!!!

I knew that in time this day would come as it does for all players that are no longer able to remain at the pace they had previously set.  I just didn’t expect that to occur in 2011.

Did you???

Cards like this are so much fun.  Even if the guys are wearing Phillies’ uniforms…

Happy Birthday Ichiro!!!

Ichiro turns 37 years old today!!

Arguably the best hitter of the decade, Ichiro Suzuki has proven to be an extremely talented contact hitter, maybe one of the best ever.

In 10 professional seasons in major league baseball, Ichiro has collected 2,200+ hits.  In ten years he has accumulated 200 or more hits in each of those seasons.  His ability to get on base has not diminished since his debut season, and he seems to just be getting better.

For his birthday, I wish Ichiro perfect health.  And I want that health to hold until he gets into the 3,000 hits club.  Based on his average he will need just 4 more years to accomplish that task.  And while that means he will be 40 years old when that time comes, I do believe that he is conditioned to reach that mark with relative ease!!

Happy Birthday Ichiro!!!
