Baseball Card Show Review.

Baseball Card Show Review.

While not under normal conditions, I attended a baseball card show this past weekend.  Prior to this show, I had become a ‘regular attendee’ of the Friday evening show, but with a Little League game on my calendar for my 8-year old’s team, going on Friday night was not an option.

So, I developed an aggressive plan to get to the show early on Saturday with the goal of being able to leave and get to my 6-year old’s Little League game at 11AM on Saturday morning.

Well, the plan went off without a hitch.  My early start was successful and I was able to spend 70 minutes at the card show – Hat-Tip to the organizers of the show for being nice enough to allow me early entry.

As for the cards, I did fairly well.  I spent a majority of my time working with my vintage dealer as I dug into his 1975 Topps boxes and hauled away a very impressive stack of cards for my set build.  Other than that, I did a little bit of casual shopping and picked up some other things that will fill my collection nicely.

I’ll show of my purchases throughout the remainder of the day so you can see how I did.

Come back often, and ‘Thanks for reading’!

Happy Monday.

Baseball Card Show Tomorrow Saturday Morning!!

Baseball Card Show Tomorrow Saturday Morning!!

I have not been to a ‘Saturday’ baseball card show in close to two years.  The Friday night shows have been working so well with my schedule, up until now that is…

Tonight, my 8-year old son had a baseball game with his Winter League team, the Phillies.  I am an assistant coach for the team, and we did not stop playing until 7:20.  By the time we left the field, got home, took showers, and got ready for bed it was 8:30 and way to late for me to haul 30 minutes away from my house to attend a card show that ends at 10:00PM.

So, I am going to go tomorrow morning – EARLY.

Why early?

Because my 6-year old son has a Winter League baseball game with his team, the Yankees at 11:30.  We practice 30 minutes prior to the start of the game, and yes I am also an assistant coach for his team.

So, I will be leaving the house around 8:15 to arrive at the show in time for the doors to open at 9:00.  I will have 75 minutes to shop and hit he door so I can meet the rest of my family at the ballpark in time for the start of the practice at 11:00.  If I am lucky, I may be able to chomp a granola bar along the way…

As for the show, I am limiting my ‘wants’ since I know my time is very limited.

I am hoping to grab some more cards for my 1975 Topps set build at the show – this is priority #1.  From there, I am hoping that some of the modern dealers have cards from Topps Mini, Topps Chrome, Panini Prizm, and Donruss Series 2 for me to look through and grab cards from for my modern and vintage PC’s as well as my Marlins collection.

Wish me luck – 75 minutes is gonna fly by!!

And don’t worry, on Monday I will recap mu full experience.  Have a nice weekend.

Well, after missing both baseball card shows from May and June, I was pretty excited to attend the July show.

And I was equally excited as I exited the shows as I definitely found some new and neat gems for my collection.  And when I say ‘new’, of course I mean old…

I was at the show for a little less than two hours, sorting and sifting through boxes and boxes of cards.  I pulled some decent stuff for my vintage player collections, and a ton of cards for my 1975 Topps set build.

In addition to that, I scored a few Marlins goodies that would make any fan smile, and lastly, I hauled in some special vintage wax.

Ready to see the entire haul?  Cool.  I’ll be launching a new post every 90 minutes for the remainder of the day until I show you all of it.

Buckle up, it is gonna be a fun ride!

BASEBALL CARD SHOW TONIGHT!!!

BASEBALL CARD SHOW TONIGHT!!!

Friends, it has been waaaaayy too long since I attended my last baseball card show.  Plans kept me occupied when the last two shows were in town, so I am craving cardboard and am a bit frantic.

I need my fix of baseball cards, I am hopeful that it comes when I hit the local, monthly show tonight.

A lot has happened since the last show – and lots of new stuff is available to be had.  This will be my first chance to truly shop for Series 2, Panini Prizm, Archives, and the newly released Allen & Ginter.  Hopefully, I can score some nice cards from these new sets.

And let us now forget about my search for cards from the 1975 Topps set too!  I am eager to see what the vintage dealers bring to the show as I will have my ‘Needs’ list ready to go.

And of course, I will be seeking out cards for my modern PCs – Stanton, Fernandez, Harper, Pedroia, and McCutchen – hopefully I can nab cards of all of these players.

So, wish me luck because I am full prepared to be at the show for as long as it takes to dig in and enjoy some wonderful, delicious, cardboard!

Well friends, another baseball card show has come and gone.  And this one was at a new location as my monthly card show has changed venues for the third time in a year.  And while not as nice or as large as the prior hotel, the show was still full of baseball cards.  And that is what it is all about.

As for my purchases, I did ok – not great and not bad.  Just ok.

I was able to hook up again with the vintage seller at the show and that netted me another nice selection of cards for my 1975 Topps set build.  I’ll get into more of those details later.

As for modern stuff, I brought home a nice stack of cards for my modern PC’s and my Marlins collection as well.

So, while I did not walk away with anything that is going to make headlines across the globe, I did add some depth to my player collections, I did get caught up with some modern card releases, and I  did grab a great stack of needed cards for my 1975 Topps set.

Get ready as I will start showing you all of my haul from the card show as the day continues.

BASEBALL CARD SHOW TONIGHT!!!

BASEBALL CARD SHOW TONIGHT!!!

Finally, the first Friday of the month is here and for me that means that it is time for another South Florida baseball card show.

And lucky for me, neither of my boys have any Little League or T-Ball activities scheduled for tonight, so I am free to go to the card show!

There has been a lot of activity in the collecting universe since the last show that I attended with the releases of 2014 Topps Opening Day, 2014 Topps Museum Collection, and 2014 Topps Heritage.

Thankfully, I have already secured most of the Opening Day and Heritage cards that I am after so I can avoid digging through boxes of those cards and set my sights on some different things.

Here is some of the stuff I will be seeking:

  • 2014 Topps Series 1 Miami Marlins Gold cards
  • 2014 Topps Heritage parallels of Giancarlo Stanton & Jose Fernandez
  • 2014 Topps Museum cards of Dawson, Stanton, Fernandez, and Harper
  • 2014 Topps stickers Miami Marlins team set
  • 1975 Topps singles for my set build
  • Inspiration for new subsets to collect

Sound good?  It does to me – and I cannot wait to get to the show tonight and start hunting the cards I am seeking.

On Monday, I will have a full card show recap for you with scans and stories about each purchase that I make.

Enjoy your weekend.

Baseball Card Show Review

I was very excited to attend the card show that was held this past weekend since I missed the February show due to family commitments.

Mixed into that excitement was the opportunity to see some new card releases as well – 2014 Donruss, 2014 Topps Tribute, and 2014 Topps Turkey Red.  Ultimately I only saw Donruss as one seller was selling packs and boxes – and the price tag was too steep for me to get it on.  I did not see any singles of the new Topps Tribute or Turkey Red product at all so I will now have to turn to the web if I want cards from any of those products.

The show was strong.  And I believe that I found the dealer that will help me get stacks of cards for my 1975 Topps set build.  He is a true vintage seller and the last year he offers is 1975.  He had two boxes full of commons from the set, in sleeves and numerical order, and I jumped right in.  You’ll have to wait a few hours to see the full haul…

I did fairly well with the rest of the stuff that I brought home.  2014 Topps was everywhere but with the exception of some colored parallels and Super Veteran subset cards I am done with that set.

Overall, I had a good time and I am ready to scan and post my purchases so you can enjoy the show with me.

Stay tuned, Card Show Purchase #1 is going to launch in two hours.

Have a nice day.

Baseball Card Show T-O-N-I-G-H-T!!!!

Baseball Card Show T-O-N-I-G-H-T!!!!

Finally, the first Friday of the month and I am going to a baseball card show!   Due to scheduling conflicts, I was unable to make the card show in February so I am really eager to get in there and dig for some cardboard-gold!

Some of the things that I will be after:

  • 2014 Topps Series 1 Super Veterans
  • 2014 Topps Miami Marlins colored parallels
  • 2014 Topps Tribute cards for my player collections
  • 2014 Topps Turkey Red singles for my player collections
  • The new Donruss release (just launched this week)
  • Singles for my 1975 Topps set build
  • Tom Glavine and John Smoltz rookie cards
  • Oddballs

Hopefully I am able to capture some great cards at this show.  And you can expect a full report with pictures and stories on Monday.

Stay tuned.  And have a great weekend!!

Baseball Card Show Review

Well, I attended my first Saturday baseball card show in more than a year this past weekend.

I was eager to see what the mix of dealers and collectors was on a Saturday afternoon versus my normal night of Friday.  And to be honest, the scene was not much different – similar mix of people and dealer displays.

But, I did pretty well.  I scored a new Dawson for my collection.  I added some neat modern cards.  And I scored a vintage card that has been on my ‘Want List’ for the better part of five years.

So, sit back and relax – and check back with your buddy at ’30-YOC’ all day long as I will be showing off my loot from the show throughout the day.

Let’s Go!!!

Baseball Card Show This Afternoon!!

Baseball Card Show This Afternoon!!

Yessir, it is the first Saturday of the month, and of the new year, and that means that there is a baseball card show in town.

And while I normally skip the Saturday festivities and opt for the Friday evening event, my plans have been shuffled around a bit and I am able to make the show on Saturday.

So, I am hoping for a new batch of dealers as I have not been to a show on a Saturday in more than a year.  And hopefully with those new dealers comes new baseball cards for me to peruse too.

Since there are no ‘new’ releases for me to seek out at this show, I will not  be bringing a ‘want list’ this time around – strictly a collector going to see what he can uncover.

And you better believe that I will feature the full haul of the cards I score on Monday, so be on the lookout for that!!

Have a great weekend.  And grab some cardboard if you can.  I know I will…

CHEERS!
