1988 Fleer Superstar Specials – Card #625 – Dave Righetti & Dan Plesac

1988 Fleer Superstar Specials – Card #625 – Dave Righetti & Dan Plesac

“Classic Relief”

There is no more valuable member of a team that the relief pitcher who can enter a close game in the late innings and shut down the opposition.  Such relievers are called ‘stoppers’, and in 1987 the Yankees’ Dave Righetti and the Brewers’ Dan Plesac performed these roles for their respective teams.

Righetti followed up his record-setting 1986 season with another impressive campaign.  His 31 saves ranked second best in the league.  These saves, combined with his eight victories, show that Righetti had a hand in 30 of the Yankees’ 89 wins.  Since leaving the Yankees’ starting rotation after the 1983 season, ‘Rags’ has averaged more than 34 saves per season.

Plesac was a major factor in Milwaukee’s surprising success in 1987.  He appeared in 57 games, saving 23 and winning 5.  His ERA was an impressive 2.61.  The Brewers started the season with an incredible 13-straight victories.  Dan pitched in seven of those games, notching five saves.

Both of these relievers were members of the 1987 American League All-Star team.  It was Righetti’s second All-Star selection and Plesac’s first.

TTM Success: Dan Plesac!!

In 24 days Dan Plesac returned one of the nicest signatures in my collection thus far.  This is the second time that I have sent to Mr. Plesac.  The first time he took a bit longer to return my cards and he signed them in ballpoint pen – a BIG No No!!  This time, they look incredible, and his unique looking autograph is much more prominent.

Still anytime you can add a 3-time All-star’s autograph to your collection you’re having a pretty good mail-day!!

Thanks Dan.

9 More TTM Requests In The Mail…

I’m gearing up for Spring Training.  You know, just working out all the TTM kinks since I took it easy during the offseason…

I put 9 letters in the mail on the way to work this morning.  And I am very serious about adding some bulk and quality to my autograph collection this year.  I have some lofty goals, but I feel that if I put in the effort I will be rewarded.

For this round, I sent to retired players.  A few All-stars, some World Series champions, and all players I enjoyed watching during their careers!!

The guys:  Tom Brunansky, Mike Mussina, John Tudor, Lonnie Smith, Steve Sax, Darren Daulton, Dan Plesac, Gary Gaetti, and member of the 2010 Hall of Fame class, Mr. Whitey Herzog.

Wish me luck.  I am hoping for some quick returns so I can get a head of steam behind me as we head into Spring Training!!!

Dan Plesac Autograph TTM Success!!!

In 36 days Dan Plesac returned one of the nicest signatures in my collection thus far.  It’s really just too bad that he signed these cards in ballpoint pen.  They look incredible, I just wish that they stood out more prominently.

Still anytime you can add a 3-time All-star’s autograph to your collection you’re having a pretty good mail-day!!

Thanks Dan.
