Ball Game Tonight!!!

My buddy called me last night with an offer I just couldn’t refuse-

2 FREE tickets to Monday night’s Marlins game and a FREE parking pass!!!

So, I will be on my way to Landshark Stadium in a few hours to enjoy a contest between my beloved Florida Marlins and the Atlanta Braves.  We’re battling for playoff position, specifically for the Wild Card spot, so I am hopeful that my team can pull out a victory.

This is also a neat event.  The pitchers tonight are Marlins’ ace Josh Johnson and Braves’ hurler Tim Hudson.  These guys share a common story – both had Tommy John surgery and missed extensive time.  Josh Johnson has become an All-star and Cy Young award candidate since his return to the sport and tonight marks Hudson’s first game back in the big leagues since his operation.  I wish ‘Huddy’ well, just not well enough to defeat ‘The Fish’!!!

The Marlins Need To Keep Chipping Away…

As we get closer to the end of the 2009 baseball season, we should begin to find out who the contenders and pretenders are.

Currently, the Florida Marlins are 6.5 games behind the division leading Phillies.  With 41 games left to play they still have a chance to threaten the Phillies for the top spot in the division but they have to maintain their winning ways and hope the Phillies falter.

In the race for the National League Wild Card, ‘The Fish’ are 4 games out of the top spot and are looking up at the Rockies and Giants.  This is another race that will go down to the wire and my fingers are crossed that the Marlins remain competitive enough over the last six weeks of the season to challenge for that spot too.

If the last few weeks are any indication as to what the Marlins can do, they should be right in the middle of both races.

Here is a quick summary of they have fared over the last few weeks:

Astros – lost series 2-1

Rockies – won series 2-1

Astros – won series 3-1

Phillies – won series 3-0

The End!!!

I Have Been Waiting For This Moment For A Long Time…

To say that this is a dream of mine is a true statement.  The possibility of this dream becoming a reality became real almost four years ago when my wife and I learned that we were pregnant with our first child.

You see, ever since the day we began talking about having kids I envisioned taking my child to a ballgame.  Baseball was such a fun and entertaining pat of my youth that I couldn’t, and still cannot wait, to share it with my kids.  Boy or girl, it didn’t matter.  This was strictly about sharing my passion for the sport with the person I am most passionate about.

So today, if the weather holds up, I am taking my soon-to-be 3 year old son to his first baseball game.  He does not know it yet.  But each time we drive by a stadium or school with a field or park with a baseball diamond he says “I want to go baseball’.  Well Dylan, today is that day and I can hardly wait to take you to your first game!!!

The Marlins are hosting the Rockies today at 5:05 and we will be there.  I cannot promise how long we’ll stay or if we’ll even sit in our seats.  What I can promise is enthusiasm for the event, memories for me and my son, and popcorn – lots and lots of popcorn!!!
