Happy Birthday Hanley Ramirez!!!

Happy Birthday Hanley Ramirez!!!

Hanley Ramirez turns 30 years old today.

One of the most talented baseball players ever to wear the Marlins uniform (Florida and Miami), Hanley Ramirez has the skills and baseball smarts to be the leader and centerpiece of his team.

His ability to dominate the game with his speed, hitting, power, and defense are all evident – I have seen him do it numerous times.

Want proof?

OK!!

In 2007 he stole 51 bases.
In 2008 he slugged 33 home runs.
In 2009 he won a batting title with a .342 average.

And if he was focused and determined, I think he can do it for a full season and become a top MVP candidate.  And maybe, just maybe, be tabbed one day as ‘The Best Player In The Game’!!!

Now a Dodger, always a Marlin!!!  I wish you nothing but the best Hanley!!!

Happy Birthday!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Hanley Ramirez 2011 Topps Lineage Cloth Sticker

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Hanley Ramirez 2011 Topps Lineage Cloth Sticker

This was a nice, little find.  I have been slowly putting together the 2011 Topps Lineage team set of the Florida Marlins.  The set only contains 3 players, but with the base, platinum, diamond, 75 mini, and cloth stickers, the set really adds up to 15 cards.

I have yet to cross the half-way mark for the set to this point, but scoring the cloth sticker of Hanley Ramirez gets me one step closer.

Have a look:

The colors on this card are great.  The Silver, Teal, and Black look very nice together.

I like Lineage, always did.  Too bad it never made it back to the calendar for a repeat performance…

And This Is Why If I Owned An MLB Team That I WOULD NOT Let My Players Compete In The World Baseball Classic!!!

And This Is Why If I Owned An MLB Team That I WOULD NOT Let My Players Compete In The World Baseball Classic!!!

From Yahoo Sports – Hanley Ramirez Expected To Miss Eight Weeks Of Action

Now I don’t know about you, but if I had giants stacks of money invested in a player and he was competing for something that did not involved the potential success for my ballclub, I would have a problem with that.

Putting aside the pride to play for the country that you were born in, the players have to get that right??  And the owners too, wouldn’t you think??

For the life of me, I just cannot understand how any owner of a professional sports team that had put millions and billions of dollars into the salaries of its players would ever let something like this happen.

And now, one of the stars of the Los Angeles Dodgers could have his season and his team’s season ruined as a result.  I know Hanley pretty well, he played for my team for six years.  He gets effected by quite a bit – and he shows it in his play often.  An injury like this takes a lot to recover from – his swing my have to change, his wrist speed may be effected, and his power may decline as a result.  This surgery does not just affect Hanley Ramirez – it affects the players that were slated to bat before him in the lineup and the ones batting immediately after him too.

All MLB owners should take note of this situation.  And if you do are not a part-owner of the Dodgers, be thankful that this did not happen to one of your players.

We’ll see if/how this affects the rosters of the next World Baseball Classic…

Hanley, I wish you a speedy recovery.  And I hope that you can quickly regain your form as I really enjoy watching you play baseball.  Best of luck to you for a fast recovery!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Lot Of Two Hanley Ramirez 2012 Topps Chrome Cards – Base & Purple Border

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Lot Of Two Hanley Ramirez 2012 Topps Chrome Cards – Base & Purple Border

I still have quite a few Marlins cards from 2011 and 2012 that I need to buy for my team set project.

Actually, that is inaccurate, I need A LOT OF CARDS to complete some of the Marlins team sets that have holes in them.

I found these two Hanley Ramirez cards in the dime boxes at the show:

SHOW 4

It is very possible that I have the base version from the 2012 Topps Chrome set already, but I picked it up just in case I am wrong.  As for the Purple version, I know that I did not have that one.

Time for me to review the Chrome checklist again – I think I am getting close to the full base set of the Marlins.  As for the colored parallel versions, I have a long way to go…

Happy Birthday Hanley Ramirez!!!

This Matt Dominguez 2012 Topps Finest Baseball Card Completes My 2012 Finest Miami Marlins Team Set!!!

This Matt Dominguez 2012 Topps Finest Baseball Card Completes My 2012 Finest Miami Marlins Team Set!!!

It is always nice when a fellow blogger lends a hand to his peers.  And in this case, I was the recipient of such generosity.

A few weeks back, I saw that one of my blogging pals Adam has ripped open some 2012 Topps Finest packs.  I needed just one card to complete my Marlins team set, and he pulled it.

The card was the Matt Dominguez rookie card.  And although Dominguez is no longer on the Marlins (spoiler alert), I wanted the card to complete my set.

So, I asked.  And I was obliged.

And now, I have the card.  Check it out:

And here is a look at the completed 4-card set:

The cards are great looking, and I like the dark backgrounds.  It’s too bad that 3 of the 4 players featured are no longer Marlins players, but that is just par for the course when you are a Marlins fan.

Thank you for the card Adam, it is greatly appreciated.  And for everyone else, hop over to Adam’s blog – he is a great trade partner and a serious team and player collector!!

A Package From Drew Inspires An Impromptu ‘Fab Five’ List

A Package From Drew Inspires An Impromptu ‘Fab Five’ List

I recently completed a trade with Drew, of the blog Drew’s Cards.  I sent him a stack of 2012 Topps Archives Yankees and he sent me a stack of Marlins cards in return.

As a matter of fact, he sent me so many Marlins cards that there are just too many to scan.

Here is the proof:

I told you.

So , what I decided to do was put together a quick ‘Fab Five Cards From Drew’ to break down all of the cards into the five that I like the most.

So, starting with number five, here we go:

5 – 2010 Topps Legendary Lineage featuring Mark Teixeira & Logan Morrison

4 – Gary Sheffield 1998 Pinnacle Inside – I am a sucker for cards that feature batting donuts in the photo

3 – Hanley Ramirez 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Sticky Fingers’ – I miss the guy, what can I say???

2 – Brad Penny 2004 Upper Deck Vintage ‘2003 World Series Highlights’

1 – Javier Vazquez 2011 Topps Black border variant – The Black border with the dark background is SWEET!!!

There you have it, another ‘Fab Five’ in the books.

Thank you Drew.  I look forward to more trades in the near future!!!
