PREMIERING TONIGHT – The Franchise, Starring The Miami Marlins

PREMIERING TONIGHT – The Franchise, Starring The Miami Marlins

I have not looked forward to the debut of a television show like this for a very long time.

You better believe that I will be glued to the TV tonight at 10:00PM.

Here is a preview:

I cannot wait!!!

I’ve Got Tix!!!!

I’ve Got Tix!!!!

It took me a lot longer than I wanted, but due to some prior plans, birthday parties, and a family vacation, I have been unable to make the trip to the new Marlins Park.

Well, that all changes now.

I have finally scored two tickets to a game at Marlins Park, and they are for next Saturday evening against the Washington Nationals!!!

And I cannot wait.

Sure, I want to check out my team and cheer them on as they battle the first-place Nationals.  But, I am just as excited to see the new ballpark.  I have heard great things, and I have been wanting to check it out for myself.

My wife is eager to check out the new ballpark too, and we’re going to bring her camera and zoom lens so I can capture as much of the stadium and game action as possible.

Next Sunday, you can expect lots and lots of pictures!!!

Reader Gerad Sends Over Three Cards For My 2012 Topps Heritage Miami Marlins Team Set!!!

Reader Gerad Sends Over Three Cards For My 2012 Topps Heritage Miami Marlins Team Set!!!

The readers of this blog continue to amaze me with their generosity.

This time around, it was loyal reader Gerad that offered up a fe treats.

3 to be exact – and all are needs for the 2012 Topps Heritage team set I am building of the Miami Marlins.

Check them out:

1st – NL Home Run League Leaders card featuring Giancarlo Stanton among some other names you may know…

2nd – Matt Dominguez rookie card

3 – Jose Reyes

I will have to check the official checklist, but I believe that this means that I have completed the base part of the set.

Now, on to the short prints – and there are a lot of Marlins SP’s to go after!!!

Thank you again, Gerad.  I will have some ‘Cards’ for you soon.

Scooped This Up At Wal-Mart Last Night On A Quick Errand Run…

Scooped This Up At Wal-Mart Last Night On A Quick Errand Run…

I had to make a quick trip to Wal-Mart list night to grab some stuff for a party at my son’s school this afternoon.

And as quick as I had to make that trip, I was able to squeeze in a few minutes to scan the baseball card area located near register #21.

I saw a lot of new stuff, and  a lot of stuff marked with clearance tags too – mostly 2011 baseball and some basketball stuff.

And then I saw this:

Somehow, it ended up in my shopping cart.  So, I just paid for it and brought it home with the rest of the items I needed to get.

The set is a 17-card set, and it features some players that are not included in the 2012 Series 1 Marlins team set.

I really want to rip it open and check them out.  But something is telling me to keep it sealed…

Decisions, decisions….

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – 5 Cards For My Marlins 2012 Topps Heritage Team Set

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – 5 Cards For My Marlins 2012 Topps Heritage Team Set

From what I can see at the show, not too many of the dealers there are busting new product.  If they are, they don’t even waste time selling their common cards – just the high-end stuff.

But, there is one dealer that still brings boxes of his commons.  And he usually has all of the new releases with him.

And since I want to build the 2012 Topps Heritage Miami Marlins team set from scratch, I dug into his box of them.

And I ended up scoring five new cards for the set.

And I paid just a quarter for each!!!

Miami Marlins 2012 Topps Opening Day Team Set & Inserts

Miami Marlins 2012 Topps Opening Day Team Set & Inserts

I have been a Marlins mood for a while now – and a lot of my recent pick-ups are centered around my favorite baseball club.

I recently scooped up a very nice stack of modern-era Marlins team sets from a seller on Ebay.  The card cover both the Florida Marlins era and the new Miami Marlins era.

The first set that I want to show off is the 2012 Topps Miami Marlins Opening Day set.  In total, I was able to grab 14 cards from the set, and I am thrilled with the turnout.

Have a look:

Here is the seven card ‘base’ set that features Heath Bell, Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco, Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, Anibal Sanchez, and Mike Stanton.

And my favorite mascot, ‘Billy The Marlin’.

There are two Marlins’ players featured in the ‘Elite Skills Player set – Jose Reyes & Mike Stanton.

And three Marlins in the ‘Fantasy Squad’ set – Jose Reyes, Mike Stanton, and Hanley Ramirez.

And lastly, Hanley is als part of the 3-D Opening Day Stars set.

Pretty nice start to what will be a fun set to collect.  And I am more than 60% done!!!  I still need to find the Blue bordered cards that are a nice compliment to the base 7-card set.  And there is one autographed card of Chris Coghlan that I will try to scoop up too…

I have a strong case of ‘Marlins-Fever’ and I am in the mood to collect.

So, if you have any Miami Marlins baseball cards that you want to part with, please let me know.  Hopefully we can work something out that benefits us both.

I am looking for any and all Marlins cards from the following releases:

4/4/2012 – A Historic Night For The Miami Marlins

4/4/2012 – A Historic Night For The Miami Marlins

The first game in a team’s history only occurs one time.

I have been waiting for this moment for what feels like a long time, and while I chose to ultimately stay home and watch the ballgame from the comforts of my own house, I did want to chronicle some of the history that occurred tonight.

Here we go!!!!

National Anthem – Jose Feliciano

Ceremonial First Pitch – Muhammad Ali

First Pitch – Josh Johnson, Strike

First Hit For The Marlins – Jose Reyes, Single

First Hit For The Visiting Team – Carlos Beltran, Single

First Single For The Marlins – Jose Reyes

First Double For The Marlins – John Buck

First Run Scored For The Marlins – Omar Infante

First RBI For The Marlins – John Buck

First Strikeout For The Marlins – Daniel Desclaso, Josh Johnson, 4th inning

And there you have it, History has been made!!!  Too bad that we could not make it into the win column…

Miami Marlins To Be Feature Team Of Showtime’s ‘The Franchise’

Miami Marlins To Be Feature Team Of Showtime’s ‘The Franchise’

MIAMI (AP)—With their profile on the rise, the Miami Marlins are getting a TV show.

This season the Marlins will be the focus of Showtime’s documentary series,“The Franchise.” That means unprecedented exposure for a team that has finished last in the NL in attendance each of the past seven seasons.

Showtime and Major League Baseball Productions announced the decision Monday and said the Marlins were an appealing choice as a team in transition. They hired Ozzie Guillen as manager and spent $191 million to sign All-Stars Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell, and they anticipate sellout crowds nightly this year as they move into a new ballpark.

“The Franchise” made its debut last season by focusing on the San Francisco Giants.
