In A Matter Of Days, Derek Jeter Will Climb Three Rungs On The All-Time Hits List!!!

In A Matter Of Days, Derek Jeter Will Climb Three Rungs On The All-Time Hits List!!!

If you haven’t been paying attention, Derek Jeter has been on fire since collecting hit number 3,000 of his career during the first weekend of July.

In fact, in less than two months he has gathered up 55 more hits and he now sits at 3,058.

Earlier this week, Jeter passed Rod Carew.  Entering today’s action he was tied with Rickey Henderson.  But after collecting three hits in this afternoon’s 22-9 win over Oakland, Derek is now resting in 21st place with Craig Biggio just 2 hits ahead of him.

It should be just a matter of days before Jeter overtakes Biggio for 20th place.  And with roughly 30+ games left in the 2011 season, he will likely remain in 20th list for the duration of the season.

Next on the list is Dave Winfield who is at 3,110.

The last few months have been a blast ‘Tracking Jeter’ and I look forward to doing the same in 2012 when he could possibly crack the ‘Top 15’.

Go Get ‘Em Derek!!!

Derek Jeter Set To Rejoin The New York Yankees On Monday

Derek Jeter Set To Rejoin The New York Yankees On Monday

TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Derek Jeter is set to rejoin the Yankees on Monday in his return from a calf injury.

The shortstop said Thursday he will play minor league rehab games Saturday and Sunday at Double-A Trenton and be with the Yankees for a series in Cleveland.

“I feel good now,” Jeter said after working out at the Yankees’ minor league complex. “I feel a lot better. I’m ready to get out of here.”

The team captain is six hits shy of 3,000. A return next week could put him on track to reach the milestone at Yankee Stadium during a four-game series against Tampa Bay from July 7-10. Then comes the All-Star break, and New York opens the second half with an eight-game road trip.

Jeter had been eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday but wasn’t ready. His bid to become the 28th major leaguer—and first with the Yankees—to get 3,000 hits has been on hold since he strained his right calf June 13 against the Indians.

“I hadn’t done anything for a couple weeks, so it takes a little while to get loose and get in baseball shape,” Jeter said.

Jeter, who turned 37 on Sunday, is batting .260 with two homers and 20 RBIs. He has 12 extra-base hits in 262 at-bats and a .324 on-base percentage.

Jeter increased his intensity in Thursday’s workout, running from home to first after hitting a ball and also turning double plays. He had 60 swings in batting practice, took grounders and ran from first to third.

“Things have gone well,” said Jeter, who is scheduled to workout Friday in Florida before departing for Trenton.

I like multi-player cards.

And while shopping with a seller on Ebay that offered same price shipping no matter how many single cards were purchased, I added this one to my ‘cart’ without hesitation.

I want to try to grab a few Derek Jeter baseball cards – and this one looks great!!

Thanks for reading.

3,000 Will Have To Wait – Yanks Put Derek Jeter On DL With Calf Strain

3,000 Will Have To Wait – Yanks Put Derek Jeter On DL With Calf Strain

NEW YORK (AP)

Derek Jeter went on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a strained right calf, an untimely setback for the New York Yankees star as he pursues 3,000 career hits.

The Yankees put the All-Star shortstop on the DL for the first time since 2003, making the move prior to their game against Texas. Jeter limped off the field Monday night, four innings after he got his 2,994th hit.

”I’m still pleading my case,” Jeter said, to no avail, about an hour before the Yankees made the announcement.

Jeter and his teammates hoped he would be able to get the historic hit at Yankee Stadium. New York has three games left against Texas on this homestand, then goes on a six-game road trip to Wrigley Field in Chicago, and Cincinnati.

He still might get his chance at home, too.

Jeter will be eligible to come off the DL during the middle of a three-game series at home against Milwaukee. The Yankees then start a six-game visit, taking on the crosstown Mets and Cleveland, before returning to the Bronx.

In a 1-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians, Derek Jeter took another step closer to the magical 3,000 hits mark.

In the fifth inning, immediately after making contact Jeter injured his calf.  He still made it to first base, netting himself a single, but left the game after reaching the base.

Hopefully this injury is not a major, or even minor setback, is his attempt at making history…  Time will tell.
