There Will Be No ‘Hall Of Fame Debate Tonight’. Tonight Is All About Game 7 Of The NBA Finals!!!!

There Will Be No ‘Hall Of Fame Debate Tonight’.  Tonight Is All About Game 7 Of The NBA Finals!!!!

Sorry guys, I almost never let this happen. But I have to take a night off and watch the Heat and the Spurs tonight.  Game 6 was unreal and I am expecting another great competition tonight.

While I am nowhere near as big of an NBA fan as I once was, I do enjoy the playoff atmosphere a lot.  Personally, for the last 6-7 years I have skipped the lengthy regular season and strictly watch the playoffs.

Tonight will be great!

LETS GO HEAT!!!!

NBA Finals Prediction

NBA Finals Prediction

Yes this is a baseball and baseball card blog.

And yes, I am what you would certainly call a ‘Baseball Guy’.

But, living in South Florida and being a former NBA Fan-atic, it is very hard to not get swept up with the Miami Heat.

So, while I will still be focusing on baseball, I will also be watching the NBA Finals.

And I thought it was only right to formally state my prediction here for all to see.

Cool?

OK.

I predict that the Miami Heat will win the NBA Championship, 4 games to 1.

Let’s Go Heat!!!!

Heat In Six!!!

Heat In Six!!!

Just wanted to document my prediction for the NBA Finals.  You read it here first…

Udonis Haslem Supports His Florida Marlins!!!

This past weekend, Udonis Haslem of the Miami Heat did an autograph signing at the mall by my house.  And while I didn’t have an urge to pay for an autograph, I couldn’t help but stop by and snap a pic of him.

And you know what?  He’s a Marlins fan!!!

Thanks UD!!  And best of luck to you in the NBA playoffs!  Hopefully you’re able to get back onto the court to help the Heat!!

‘On The Road With psugator02′ – Dennis Rodman – December 16, 2010

‘On The Road With psugator02′ – Dennis Rodman – December 16, 2010

Thursday, December 16
Mardis Gras Casino
Hallandale, Fla.
5:20-6:10 p.m.

I have to send a shout-out to my boy Sal. He’s new to the board, but he is officially cool enough to hang with “The Gator” (I know he’s laughing as he reads this LOL). I’ll admit I doubted him a bit. His text said “The Worm” was going to be doing a radio show from a local casino. I turned on the station and couldn’t find anyone talking sports, nor did I hear Rodman or any mention of him. Sal is pretty good with his info, though, so I called the station and got the station manager’s number. Dude couldn’t have been cooler as he told me “The Worm” would be at the casino from 5-6.

I jetted down the turnpike and arrived about 5:15 p.m. Only about 10 people were gathered in the poker room listening to the show. Don’t think Rodman or the host even talked sports…mostly banging women, going to strip clubs, etc. But it was pretty entertaining. As I stood there and listened I befriended Rodman’s manager, a University of Florida grad. Once Rodman finished up he said he was in a hurry and wouldn’t have time for pictures. I asked him again for the picwith, telling him that A.J. promised he’d do it. The first grapher who took the picture chopped off both our heads, so I had a poker player I had been talking to take the second pic and it came out beautifully. Rodman also stopped to sign a few graphs. I was first in line and he told me that he would do two — and only two — of my magazines, which was fine. One was a dupe anyway, and the other was a duel with Jordan and if he had done that then I would’ve felt obligated to get MJ LOL.

As Rodman walked away he asked if he’d see me again at the next event (this one at a strip club). A strip club? Why of course. Rodman even tweeted me. Check it out:

So This Is How Cleveland Fans Really Feel About LeBron, Huh???

So This Is How Cleveland Fans Really Feel About LeBron, Huh???

The below video was taken a few weeks ago at an Indians game.  The fans in attendance were there hoping to see Alex Rodriguez hit home run #600 of his career.

Instead, they got this guy wearing his brand new Miami Heat jersey to the game.  Oh, yeah, it was a LeBron James jersey to boot.  And they really let him and his girlfriend have it…

Come see:

Is South Florida Ready For What Is About To Happen???

Is South Florida Ready For What Is About To Happen???

I have lived in South Florida for almost 85% of my life.

I know the history of South Florida pretty well, and I know the history of South Florida sports extremely well.

What has transpired in the last 24 hours down here has been nothing short of amazing in all aspects.  And while I understand and can sympathize with the emotions that others are dealing with all over the country less than 24 hours removed from LeBron James’ decision to play for the Heat, I cannot help but wear a big grin on my face as I know that I am about to witness incredible basketball for the foreseeable future.

And while all of these incredible events continue to unfold right in front of my eyes, 1 lingering thought sticks with me – Can Miami, a football town, embrace the sport of basketball and specifically these three incredible players in the same way that they hold Don Shula and Dan Marino in their hearts??

I hate to say it, but I have my doubts.  The last thing that I would want to see is this chapter in the Heat’s history, and the NBA’s for that matter, be given step-child status by a state that only elevates its athletes that wear shoulder pads.

In my lifetime the Miami Dolphins have never won anything.   In fact, I can vividly recall more losing than winning.  Yet this team, and their activities are front and center for 365 days a year.

Now I am not saying that the South Florida area does not have loyal fans of the other major sports teams, but if you look at the attendance numbers, merchandise sales, and television ratings, it is clear that this region of the state lives and breathes pigskin.

Take the Marlins’ for example.  I have enjoyed 2 World Series titles  by my home team in the last 14 years.  And while the state was a-buzz while the run was happening, it didn’t take hold until the team was well into the playoffs.  Hell, the Marlins have one of the best offensive players in the sport on their roster while also having a Top 5 pitcher on their staff and they fail to bring 15,000 fans to their home games.  Same with the Panthers team that made the Stanley Cup finals more than a decade ago.  And even just a few years ago when the Heat won the title in 2006 – stands were empty for 75% of the year.

But now things are different.  3 players have come together to accomplish one specific goal – WIN.  Win at all costs should be their motto as each of these players took significantly smaller contracts in exchange for the desire to build basketball history together.  And since it seems like South Florida enjoys the aspect of ‘fair-weather’, I see some very big summers ahead for the next half-decade or more.

I cannot wait for the tip-off to the NBA season.  Living where I live, I should have more access to this team and their games than someone who does not live nearby.  It will be very fun and interesting to see how these guys adapt to one another as they merge three of the top ten talents in the league into one machine that has one goal.

Allow me to make a few predictions:

  1. LeBron James will have the #1 selling jersey in 2010-2011
  2. A statue of Pat Riley will be erected outside of the AAA within the next five years
  3. The Miami Heat will win 3-4 NBA championships in the next 5 years
  4. The Miami Heat will be a destination for aging/quality stars that want to win championships before they retire
  5. Alonzo Mourning will have a mentor-type role with the team and will ultimately get all three guys active in his charitable work around Miami
  6. The NBA will grant Miami an All-Star game within the next 3-4 years
  7. Contending teams will build like never before – more dynasties will be created giving the league a few elite teams and a ton of sub-par teams

Are you ready for what is about to unfold?  I hope so – it is going to be unlike anything ANY of us have seen before!!!

Buckle up Miami!!!!

Showing Off My Karl Malone Basketball Card Collection

Showing Off My Karl Malone Basketball Card Collection

When it comes to collecting, baseball was a focus of mine 95% of the time.  During that 5%, I spent quite a bit of energy collecting basketball cards.

But, I was not a set builder, or team collector.  Surprise, surprise, I was a player collector.

And my player of choice just happened to be my favorite NBA player – Mr. Karl Malone!!!

My love for basketball was born while living in Illinois.  And while 99.9% of the people in the state cheered and rooted for a certain team that won 6 championships in 8 years, I was the guy that didn’t conform.  Did I value the Bulls and what they did?  Of course.  Who wouldn’t?  But as a fan of the sport and a huge supporter of the fundamentals, I found myself a Utah Jazz fan.

My Karl Malone collection is large.  It is not catalogued the way that my Dawson one is, but I would guess that  I own 3,000 total cards with there probably being 800-900 different ones in that mix.  It didn’t take long to accumulate these as I found tons of willing trade partners.  While I bought packs and boxes like all kids did, everything I got was traded away except for my Malone and Stockton cards.

Here is my collection:

I made a quick re-entry into the hobby when I heard about ‘jersey’ cards from a friend.  I managed to grab a bunch of them right before I completely left the hobby some years ago:

I have not purchased any basketball related cards in over 6 years now.  And while I have no intention of adding any more to my collection at this time, I have to wonder what new goodies may come out once Karl Malone’s Hall of Fame induction breeds new life into collectibles that feature him…

Time will tell!!!

Celebrity First Pitch – Shaquille O’Neal

I love Shaq!!!  He is a larger-than-life man with a personality to match!!!

This video is from a Cardinals game earlier in the week, and I have to say that it’s fun to watch Shaq and Albert Pujols genuinely enjoying this moment together.  Here we have the biggest star in baseball with the biggest star, literally and figuratively, the sporting world has ever seen.  And they’re having fun!!!

Instant Classic!!!

Celebrity First Pitch – 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics

Why not invite the entire championship roster of the 2008 Boston Celtics out to throw out the first pitch at Fenway Park.  And while they are there, let them party their asses off on the pitching mound too…

What is the Over/Under on the number of intoxicated Celtics at the game???
