FINALLY!!!! My 1976 Topps Cincinnati Reds Team Set Is Complete!!!

FINALLY!!!!  My 1976 Topps Cincinnati Reds Team Set Is Complete!!!

After close to eight months, I am proud to announce that I have finally pieced together the full 1976 Topps team set of the Cincinnati Reds.

It took a bit longer than I expected, and I paid a little more for some cards than what I would have liked, but I am very happy to have completed this tribute to the 1976 team.

The set, consisting of 32 cards, looks great and is a perfect partner for the 1975 team set that I put together last year.

Here is a peek at the complete set:

Enjoy!!!

1976 Topps Cincinnati Reds Teams Set – Card #104 – Team Card w/Sparky Anderson

Man, I just love these old team cards from the 70s – they make me smile.

And while it is kind of hard to make out some of the players due to the size of them in the card’s photo, there is no mistaking my favorite baseball manager in the lower-right corner.

Hi Sparky.  Rest in peace, my friend!!

Simple and Clear!

This card from the 1976 Topps baseball card set celebrates the Cincinnati Reds 1975 World Series victory over the Boston Red Sox.  One of the most talked about championship match-ups of all-time, the Series featured some of the most dramatic and memorable scenes from the Fall Classic.

This cards celebrates the Cincinnati Reds’ 3-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The series win gave the Reds a chance to compete for the World Series championship.

The card’s picture has captured Johnny Bench, Dave Concepcion, and Tony Perez after another win!!

Great Stuff!!!

The Checklist Is Built. Let’s Do It!!!

The Checklist Is Built.  Let’s Do It!!!

Yessir, I am ready.

It took very little time to build and now I am ready to move on to my favorite phase – collecting.

I am going to go after the full 1976 Topps team set of the Cincinnati Reds.  And while this team set has substantially fewer cards than the ’75 set, the challenge to complete it while not spending a ton of money remains.

The Reds’ roster was loaded with offensive superstars, and there are several cards in this set that will be heavily over-priced.  Lucky for me, I am a disciplined shopper…

I cannot wait to get this going.

Here is the checklist I will be looking to conquer:

Card # Player
24 Geronimo, Cesar
48 Concepcion, Dave
77 Borbon, Pedro
104 Anderson, Sparky
128 Griffey, Ken
155 Billingham, Jack
179 Foster, George
211 Carroll, Clay
240 Rose, Pete
259 Chaney, Darrel
283 Rettenmund, Merv
300 Bench, Johnny
325 Perez, Tony
362 McEnaney, Will
390 Gullett, Don
420 Morgan, Joe
444 Nolan, Gary
461 Bench, Johnny
462 Rose, Perez, Morgan
469 Eastwick, Rawley
491 Crowley, Terry
514 Driessen, Dan
518 Flynn, Doug
538 Darcy, Pat
561 Carroll, Tom
579 Kirby, Clay
599 Zachry, Pat
609 Norman, Fred
627 Plummer, Bill
652 Armbrister, Ed
208T Lum, Mike
338T Bailey, Bob

Don’t worry, I’ll post each and every card from this set as I obtain them.

Wish me luck!!!

My Next Tribute To ‘The Big Red Machine’….

My Next Tribute To ‘The Big Red Machine’….

OK, so I think that I have done a pretty good job of paying tribute to the championship Reds teams from the mid-70s that I have grown to appreciate even more over the last year.

Between the team sets and subsets that I have put together, my Cincinnati Reds collection has taken a step closer towards being a very solid tribute to that legendary ball club.

With one exception…

And that will be corrected.

Now!!!

You see, the Reds won the World Series in both 1975 and 1976.  And since I have already put together the team set from the 1975 Topps issue, it just makes sense to go after their 1976 team set too.

So, that is what I will be doing.

I’ve got checklists to build.  I’ve got cards to organize.  And I’ve got Ebay searching to do.

And I will share that entire process with you until my next and possibly final tribute to ‘The Big Red Machine’ is complete!!!

Stay tuned.

Still Obsessed With “The Big Red Machine”, I Want More!!!!

Still Obsessed With “The Big Red Machine”, I Want More!!!!

You would think that after working on and finally completing my 34-card team set of the 1975 Cincinnati Reds that I would be ready to pick up and move on.  In case you missed it, you can view that completed set of baseball cards here.

But now that the set is complete, I can honestly say that I want more – A LOT MORE!!!

Sure, I can fast forward a year and dive into the 1976 Topps team set, and I am pretty sure that I will end up doing that…

But first I am going to make a little pit-stop.

A few hints:

Hint #1 – The old Reds logo.

Any guesses yet?  Ok, how about another hint???

Hint #2 – This one may give it away…

Pretty nice, huh??  Still puzzled??  OK, 1 final hint!!

Hint #3 – Ok, now I am really helping you out…

My next Cincinnati Reds themed quest will be the 2006 Fleer ‘Greats of the Game’ Reds team set.

This set is a small 10-card set, but I have always been a huge fan of the design of these cards.  About  year ago, I completed the Cubs’ set from the same issue and I thought that the Reds’ set would make a sweet addition to my collection too!!!

I’m off to build the checklist!!!

My 1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Team Set Is Complete!!!

My 1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Team Set Is Complete!!!

What a thrill – I have finally put together all of the pieces of this set.  And I can proudly say that this task was the most rewarding set I have put together since getting back into the hobby of baseball card collecting almost two years ago.

Personally I find the Reds team of the mid-1970s to be one of the most dominating and interesting dynasties in all of baseball.  A roster that was packed full of offensive superstars, ‘The Big Red Machine’ fired on all cylinders in 1975 en route to winning their first of 2 consecutive World Series titles.

In total the set contains 34 cards – each of them proudly boasting the Reds’ uniform and team colors.

Without further ado, here it is – My 1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Team Set:

Progress – COMPLETE!!!

The Official 30-YOC ‘1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Checklist’

The Official 30-YOC ‘1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Checklist’

It’s official now!!!  After asking for and receiving some help last week, I have completed my checklist for the 1975 Topps Reds team set I will be collecting.

My original goal was to get the 25-card team set featuring just the base cards, but it has now evolved into securing each and every card featuring the Cincinnati Reds logo.  25 became 34 very quickly as I have added multi-player rookie cards, league leader cards, and other parts of the ’75 Topps set featuring a Reds player.

Here is a look at the checklist:

A special thanks goes out to every one of the readers that helped guide me to this final list of cards to go after!!!

I am so eager to get going on this one – I can hardly wait!!!  And no mini’s for me.  I have very little love for them and I had to draw the line somewhere!!

Stay tuned as I will present each and every I card I pick up for this set as I secure them.  If all goes well, this should be a challenging but gratifying quest!!!

Less Than 48 Hours In, And I Already Need Your Help…

What seems like just hours ago, I posted an entry on this blog stating my desire to build the 1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds team set.  You can read that original post here.

Eager to get going, but remaining disciplined as well, I set out to build the checklist for this project.  With the help of the Internet, I was able to knock this task out with ease.

24 base cards featuring the players on the Reds’ roster and 1 manager card featuring the team photo.

But then I ran into this….

and this…

and this…

and this….

and this too….

I’m a little confused on how to proceed with these findings.  While not ‘regular’ cards from the 1975 set, they do feature Reds players and I want to build a complete set.  And while the Eastwick rookie card seems to be an easier choice, the others leave me perplexed.

I am open for your suggestions on this one.  Should I get them all or leave them be??  Is a team set complete without these cards?

Help me please!!!
