Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Lot Of (2) 2012 Panini ‘High Praise’ Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Lot Of (2) 2012 Panini ‘High Praise’ Cards

I was able to find a few cards in a dime box that will help push me into a few more subsets when I am done building the ones that I am currently working on.

The first lot is from the 2012 Panini ‘High Praise’ set and I was able to snag two cards – Robin Yount & Whitey Ford.

Have a look:

These cards are super-nice, and I really like the layout of the card with the horizontal design.

This subset has been on my list to collect since it was introduced in 2012.

Consider this an unofficial step #1 towards that goal.

Whitey Ford 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’

Whitey Ford 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’

While Whitey Ford does not place on my ‘Top Ten Pitchers’ list, the card of him, and specifically the set featured probably does rank on my ‘Top Ten Baseball Card Designs’ list.

I love the 1955 Topps design.  And if there was ever a set that I wish was not reproduced in any way, it would be this one.  Now, don’t get me wrong – I love the cards and I love that I can now afford a version of it.  I just don’t want these ’55s to lose any of the mystique that they have had with me ever since I first laid eyes on them.

Come see:

1993 Upper Deck ‘Cy Clones’ Starring Cy Young, Fergie Jenkins, and Whitey Ford

1993 Upper Deck ‘Cy Clones’ Starring Cy Young, Fergie Jenkins, and Whitey Ford

This could be one of the coolest cards I have picked up since going after the modern issues of Fergie Jenkins.

Issued in 1993 by Upper Deck, I really don’t know the history of this baseball card.  But regardless of what it is, this card appears to be celebrating some of the greatest pitchers of all-time, and I am just thrilled to see Fergie being put on the same playing field with these other legendary hurlers.

Check out this beauty:

I told you that it was great…  🙂

TTM Success: Hall of Famer, Mr. Ed ‘Whitey’ Ford!!!

TTM Success:  Hall of Famer, Mr. Ed ‘Whitey’ Ford!!!

This is ball number three that I sent out a few short weeks ago.  Amazingly, it took all three pitchers very little time to return these signed baseballs back to me.

First was Gaylord Perry(class of 1991), and then was Phil Niekro(class of 1997), and now ball number three signed by Whitey Ford(class of 1974) has been returned to me.

For Yankees fans, and baseball historians with an affinity for the game during the 1950s and 1960s, Whitey Ford was the cream of the crop.  A mighty pitcher, with the ability to win in big games, Ford was a fan-favorite on a team loaded with superstars!

Ford played 16 seasons in the big leagues – all of them with the Yankees.  During that time, he started 438 games while compiling a record of 236-106.  He was the American League’s CY Young Award winner in 1961 and he made 8 All-Star teams.  Whitey played in 11 World Series match-ups during his playing days, ultimately winning 6 World Series championships.

I am very excited to add this autographed baseball to my collection!!!

Thank you Mr. Ford!!!

Did You Know…

New York Yankees’ great Whitey Ford finished with a career record of 236-106.  In his last two seasons of 1966 and 1967, Ford had a combined record of 4-9, which lowered his career winning percentage from .705 to .690 and kept him from being the only pitcher with 200 wins and a winning percentage greater than .700.

My take – Still an amazing record, but how cool would 70% or better be???
