Did You Know…

Bill Buckner was the first left-handed Chicago Cubs hitter to lead the league in doubles at the conclusion of a baseball season.  In 1981, Buckner led the NL with 35 doubles.

Did You Know…

Hack Wilson was the first player in the Chicago Cubs franchise to lead the National League in RBI in consecutive seasons during the 20th century.  In 1929 Wilson drove in 159 runs and then in 1930, he drove in 191.

The first National League payer to lead the league in home runs in back-to-back seasons was Frank Schulte who connected for 10 home runs in 1910 and 21 round-trippers the next season in 1911.

Did You Know…

The first major league player to be born in Puerto Rico was Hiram Bithorn.  Bithorn made his debut with the Chicago Cubs on April 15, 1942.

Did You Know…

Billy Williams led the Chicago Cubs in home runs hit during the decade of the 1970’s with 143 round-trippers.  Amazingly, Williams only played for the Cubs from 1970-74 during that decade.  Of his home runs hit during that decade, Williams’ highest tally was 34 which he reached in 1970 and 1972.

Did You Know….

Phil Cavarretta was the only active player in the major leagues to be on an active roster when Babe Ruth his the final home run of his career and Hank Aaron hit the first home run of his career.

In 1935, Cavarretta was playing first base for the Chicago Cubs.  And in 1955, he played in his final season for the cross-town rival, Chicago White Sox.
