PURPLE!!!!

PURPLE!!!!

Prior to tonight, this baseball card was simply a myth.  For a moment, I thought that I might have imagined it up…

I have been collecting the 2008 Upper Deck Heroes set that features Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks for the better part of 18 months.

And up until today, I have never seen a Purple card (the ones serial numbered to just 25 copies).

But now, I finally have proof that it does indeed exist.

Have a peek:

Kind of like Bigfoot, huh??

Too bad that I have no desire to pay the $50 price tag.  Oh well, I still have 24 more chances…  I hope!!

It’s amazing how some character traits are used for some things while not used at all for others.

Specifically, I have shown an incredible amount of patience when it comes to building this set of cards.  It had been more than one month since I added another card to the set.  But when it comes to patience in regards to work, home, and other issues – I have never been accused of being too patinet.  In fact, in many instances, I have been accused of the other – impatient.

But oh, well…  I got the card!!

Serial numbered as 93/199 – here is the Blue beauty!!!

I am affectionately calling this card the ‘Slump Buster’.

It has been almost three moths since I have added a card to this set.  And as the months have passed, I have been shopping – TRUST ME!!

And while it took me much longer than what I had wanted, this time I scored a real gem!  Serial numbered as 48/49, this is the Light Blue version from the 2008 UD Heroes set.

And it looks G-R-E-A-T!!!

An Ernie Banks Rainbow, Minus The Purple…

An Ernie Banks Rainbow, Minus The Purple…

10 down and just 1 to go!!!

If you ever wondered what an ‘Ernie Banks Rainbow’ looked like, wonder no more.

Here it is – minus the Purple:

It has been more than ten weeks since I last added one of these to my ‘rainbow’.  Has the wait been worth it?  You betcha!!

Numbered as 77/99, this card is the ‘Sea Green’ version from the 2008 Upper Deck Heroes baseball card set.

This is also the 9th card I have obtained featuring Ernie Banks from this 10-card set.

So now the hunt is officially on.  And the prize that I am after?  The elusive Purple card – numbered to 25.  The journey to nab the Purple version is going to be tough – for this collector, it is like ‘BigFoot’ – a legendary card, one that I have never seen.

Wish me luck – I am definitely going to need it!!

2008 Upper Deck Heroes: Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, & Mike Schmidt – Triple Game-Used Relic Card!!

Oh, Hell Yeah!!!

One of the greatest baseball cards that I have added into my collection since the birth of ’30-YOC’!!!

I am thrilled to add this one to my Ernie Banks rainbow!!!

FINALLY!!!

It has been way too long since I landed a new addition to my Ernie Banks 2008 Upper Deck Heroes set.  So, I shopped, shopped, and shopped some more until I finally found a card that I was missing.

And while I may have over-spent just a tad to bring it home, it was worth it as I want to keep this process moving in the right direction.

Without further ado, here is the latest addition to this wonderful set:

This is the Grey version of the Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, and Mike Schmidt trio card.  Serial numbered as 107/399, the card looks great in Grey as the muted background allows for the player images and team logos to really pop!

YES!!!

2008 Upper Deck Heroes: Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, & Mike Schmidt – Brown

2008 Upper Deck Heroes: Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, & Mike Schmidt – Brown

It has been almost a full month since I last added a card from this set to my collection.  And now, finally the drought has ended!!

I now have the fifth, colored parallel for my rainbow.

Serial numbered as 024/149, this is the Brown version of the Schmidt, Banks, Robinson card from the 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes set.

Very nice.  Very nice, indeed!!

My Banks, Robinson, Schmidt Upper Deck Heroes Set Is Coming Along Nicely…

My Banks, Robinson, Schmidt Upper Deck Heroes Set Is Coming Along Nicely…

Since I had to take a break from the Ernie Banks Upper Deck Heroes set a few weeks back because of card availability, I have started to get a nice grasp of the other cards from that set that feature Mr. Cub.

And since they also feature two other baseball legends in Mike Schimdt and Frank Robinson, the journey continues to be fun.

To date, I have 4 of these three-player cards in my stash, and as I gather up more, I will do my best to show them off to you.

Here is how that set looks today:

Already in my possession are the base, Charcoal, Red, and Green cards.  Hopefully I can find a few more versions to add to my collection as the weeks pass.

And hopefully some of the more rare Ernie Banks parallel versions hit the market too!

Enjoy.

2008 Upper Deck Heroes: Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, & Mike Schmidt – Charcoal

2008 Upper Deck Heroes: Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, & Mike Schmidt – Charcoal

Taking a small break from the serial numbered versions of these cards, I bring to you today the Charcoal, non-serial numbered parallel.

A bit dark in color, the card just doesn’t look too sharp with the boring, color-less logos that Upper Deck used on this one.  Had they used the Maroon of the Phillies’ logo with the Red,White, and Blue of the Cubs’ logo and the wonderful Black, White, and Orange of the Orioles’ logo, I think that each of them would pop perfectly off of their dark background.

This is now the 4th version of this card that I have added to my steadily growing collection…
