Jorge Cantu Autograph TTM Success!!!

Sweet!  These signed Jorge Cantu cards were returned to me in 63 days.

Cantu’s signature is really nice.  I don’t think that the scan does it any justice as it really has some bold and strong curves that really add to the overall look.  And on these 2 cards, it pops!!

I like Cantu.  He’s a very quiet player, but he produces at a rate that is comparable with the stars of the Marlins team.  I also really like the fact that he accepted a position change this off-season just to help the team.  His move from 3rd base to 1st base allows the Marlins to inject a solid defender in Bonifacio at third while also adding quite a bit more speed to the offense.  Guys like these are very easy to like, and Cantu leads that class for me!!

Thanks Jorge!

Rickey & Reggie = Speed & Power

 The puzzle is complete.

Admittedly, it was not very hard to put together as it only had 2 parts.  But a puzzle is a puzzle and this one is a work of art!!!

I have been trying to think of other players that played during this era that when just their first name is mentioned you know who is being discussed.  And for the life of me I cannot think of any bigger stars in 1983 than Rickey & Reggie.

1983 Topps Super Veteran – Gene Garber

1983 Topps Super Veteran – Gene Garber

Good Old Gene Garber had a 19 season career that took him on a 5-city tour.  In his best seasons, with the Atlanta Braves from 1979-86, Garber established himself as a solid closer.  Just when the closer role became an important fixture on a club, Garber supplied that strength for the Braves.  In his 7 seasons with the team, Garber captured 110 saves.  For his career, he has 218 total saves along with a win/loss record of 96-113.

Amazingly, as a relief pitcher, Garber appeared in 71 games during the 1975 season.  None of which were starts…

Happy Anniversary Andre Dawson!!!

On this day in 1987, Andre Dawson hit for the cycle as his Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants 8-4.

Batting 3rd in the Cubs’ line-up, Dawson went 5-for-5 in the game while collecting 2 RBI.

The breakdown – Hit #1 – 1st inning, Home Run(6th of the season).  Hit #2 – 3rd inning, Double.  Hit #3 – 4th inning – Single.  Hit #4 – 6th inning – Triple.  Hit #5 – 8th inning – Single.  Not a bad day at the ballpark, huh???

Mariano Duncan Autograph TTM Success!!!

Mariano Duncan delivered these awesome looking autographs to me in 76 days.  Man, what a sweet signature!!!

Duncan had a very solid 12 year career.  Although he bounced around between 6 different teams, he did find himself playing in 3 World Series contests.  He owns 2 championship titles from his time as a member of the 1990 Cincinnati Reds and the 1996 New York Yankees.

Today Duncan is a member of Joe Torre’s coaching staff with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Thanks for the great autographs Mr. Duncan!!

Just a friendly reminder that Darryl Strawberry’s autobiography hits the shelves today.

Happy Birthday Barry Larkin!!!

Barry Larkin turns 45 years old today!

One of the most respected players from his era, Larkin was as classy of a player in the league as there was during the 1980’s, 1990’s, and into the 2000’s.  A 19-year veteran who spent his entire career in Cincinnati, Larkin was the centerpiece of the Reds’ team and their lone constant.

Larkin’s abilities were endless.  Solid hitter, great defender, base stealer, home run hitter…  Larkin excelled at each and every aspect of the game.  In his best season in 1995, he won the MVP award.  In that season, Larkin hit .319 while collecting 158 hits, 98 runs, 51 stolen bases, 66 RBI, 15 home runs and the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards.

Barry is up for election into Baseball’s Hall of Fame this year, and for his birthday I give him my vote!  I don’t think any other gift would be as fitting!!!

Happy Birthday Mr. Larkin!!!
