’30-YOC Top Ten Lists’ – ‘Top Ten Vintage Baseball Logos’
Man, I just love Sunday evenings. A little family time, a little baseball, and another ‘Top Ten List’ for 30-Year Old Cardboard.
This weeks list will take you back to the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s. I thought it would be fun to examine my favorite baseball logos from that time. The logos back then were a lot less digitized, but still extremely creative.
Here we go!!!
Honorable Mention – New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and the Cleveland Indians.
10 – Colorado Rockies – Excellent colors, and having the mountains as the focal point works perfectly for the Rocky Mountain state.
9 – Tampa Bay Devil Rays – They never should have abandoned this one. The Manta Ray was an extremely cool, and sometimes lethal, design.
8 – Milwaukee Brewers – So unique. Do you see the M & B? Go on, look for it. Do you see it?? Come on, I know that you do…
7 – Pittsburgh Pirates – Argh! You can have this logo featured anywhere and even without the word Pirates below, you will get the same reaction from all that view it. ARGH!!!
6 – Montreal Expos – While not terribly unique or special, I still love that Red, White, and Blue ‘M’ of the Montreal Expos. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my favorite player wore that ‘M’ on his cap for 11 seasons…
5 – Atlanta Braves – Chief Knockahoma! So prominent in the 1980s. Tough to replace this very cool guy with just a tomahawk.
4 – Cincinnati Reds – Kind of reminds me of the Monopoly Man… Still very cool and very, very old school!!
3 – San Diego Padres – Ah, the friar! There is something very cool and comical about this logo. I love it. And the colors Brown and Yellow look great too!!
2 – Chicago Cubs – It was between this logo and the 1912 Cubs logo. I chose this one because of the great, bold colors. I had this logo on so many shirts when I was a kid! 🙂
1 – Baltimore Orioles – The Best!! The Baltimore Orioles have had several cool logos during their history as a major league ball club; I could probably do a whole ‘Top Ten’ list just with them(idea? maybe). The Oriole head is just a perfect logo – it’s a logo that immediately make me think of Palmer and Brooks and Frank and Eddie and Cal!! AWESOME!!!
And there you have it. 10 incredible logos. 10 images that take me back to the history of the sport and these great team.
So, what is your favorite logo? Did I forget one? Maybe two? If I did, let me hear it. And if I didn’t select your favorite for my ‘Top Ten’ I want to know that too.
And next week I have a real doozie for you… ‘Top Ten TV Shows From The 1980s’.
Stay Tuned. Thanks!
