Those Phreakin’ Phillies!!!

It’s a sad day when you realize that your team just is not good enough to compete with the one team they’ve been chasing all season long.  Sadly for us Marlins fans, that is exactly how we feel after our most recent 4-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Going into the series, ‘The Fish’ trailed the defending champions by just 4 games in the NL East.  With a suucessful series, the margin could have been tightened and our pennant hopes reknidled.  Unfortunately the exact opposite happened and now the Marlins are 7 games behind the leaders.  And had it not been for ‘Mother Nature’ stepping in and canceling a game the hole may have been deeper too…

To say that the Phillies embarrassed the Marlins is an understatement.  They simply beat us in every aspect of the game.  From starting pitching to hitting for power to relief pitching and even timely hitting.  It was no contest, and the result was being shut out twice and being beaten in extra innings in the only close game of the series.

So where do the Marlins go from here?  It doesn’t look like the winner of the National League’s wild card is coming out of the East so the Marlins really have to do well against their other divisional opponents and hope that the Phillies fade a bit.  But to be honest, my hopes are a little diminished by what I saw during this recent series.  The Phillies look really good and I don’t see an obvious weakness in their team.

WoW!!!!

  1. Was there Friday and Saturday night… I am a Yankees fan, but don’t mind going to see the World Champs. Friday I left when it started raining, Saturday was a total bust except for the BP ball that Nunez donated to me. It should be embarrassing how empty that place is even when the World Champs are in town to fish fans IMO.

  2. I’m hoping my Cubbies can help the Marlins gain a little ground on those Phillies. I would love to see those “away brooms” come out!

    Thanks
    Craig
