Jim Palmer 2008 Topps Triple Threads – Green

Jim Palmer 2008 Topps Triple Threads – Green

After picking up this card of Jim Palmer from the 2008 Topps Triple Threads set, I am still not too sure if I like it or not.

First, the card:

So, I like the action photo – that is not the problem.

I think it just may be all of the extra graphic elements that the card brings…  The horizontal zig-zags, the pixelated background, etc…  I’m not too sure.

What I do know is that while the photo that was used of this card is vintage, that is the lone element of old-school that this card brings…

But hey, it is serial numbered as 203/240.  That counts for something, right???

Wade Boggs 2000 Topps Chrome

Wade Boggs 2000 Topps Chrome

I am a Wade Boggs fan, no doubt about that.  And most of my great memories of Boggs are from his days with the Boston Red Sox.

Still, he collected his only Gold Glove Award and World Series ring as a member of the New York Yankees.  And with the Tampa Bay Rays, he collected hit number 3,000 of his career.

So, as it relates to collecting, my preference is of Boggs wearing his Sox uniform.

But every once in a while, I find a card of him sporting either his Yankees or Rays uniform and I have to pounce.

This is one of those times.

This card is SUPER!!!

Told Ya.

Jim Abbott 1992 Donruss

Jim Abbott 1992 Donruss

Jim Abbott had a pretty good season in 1992, though his win-loss record does not back up that fact.

Abbott started in 29 games during the 1992 baseball season, but ended the year with a 7-15 record.  Obviously a poor season as it relates to record, but his individual stats were not that bad…

In 211 innings of work, Abbott compiled an ERA of just 2.77.  He struck out 130 batters while walking 68, and he struck out an average of 5.5 per nine innings pitched.  Abbott threw 7 complete games in ’92 as well.

After looking at Abbott’s losses from the 1992 season, five if them were by one run.  It is hardly his fault that the Angels could not support his efforts…

Happy Anniversary Eddie Murray!!!

Happy Anniversary Eddie Murray!!!

On this day in 1992, Eddie Murray passed the great Mickey Mantle for the all-time lead in RBI by a switch-hitter.  His 1,510th RBI broke the record.

Murray finished his stellar career with 1,917 total RBI.  He still holds the all-time record for a switch-hitter and ranks 9th in baseball history!!!

Happy Anniversary Mr. Murray!!

Leo Nunez 2012 Topps Heritage Short Print

Leo Nunez 2012 Topps Heritage Short Print

With the base team set of the Miami Marlins out of the way, it is time to focus on the more rare short prints.

And the first one I was able to bring home actually came from a very generous reader of ’30-YOC – The man simply known as ‘Q’.

Here is the card:

1 down, and a handful to go.

And I have to say that I am surprised at how pricey these SP’s are.  I was hoping to scoop them up quickly, but they are nowhere near as cheap as I was expecting that they would be…

Thank you Q, I appreciate this donation to my team set.

I will work to find you a suitable ‘Thank You’ card!

🙂

Dan Uggla Connects For Home Run #200 Of His Career As Braves Beat Marlins 11-0

Dan Uggla Connects For Home Run #200 Of His Career As Braves Beat Marlins 11-0

By STEVEN WINE | The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP)  Dan Uggla hit two homers in his first game at Marlins Park, including a tape-measure blow off the home-run sculpture, and Tim Hudson pitched a five-hitter for his 13th career shutout Tuesday night to help the Atlanta Braves beat Miami 11-0.

Uggla hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, and he scored a direct hit on the middle of the sculpture with a two-run homer in the ninth estimated at 432 feet. That sent a thud reverberating throughout the ballpark and increased his homer total to 10 this season and 200 for his career.

Uggla also doubled and scored before hitting a two-run single to finish with four hits and five RBIs, both season highs. He spent his first five seasons with the Marlins and hit 78 home runs in their former home, the most by any player.

Andre Dawson Card #991 – 1991 Fleer Superstar Special AUTOGRAPHED!!!

Andre Dawson Card #991 – 1991 Fleer Superstar Special AUTOGRAPHED!!!

Another great autograph for my Dawson collection.

This one happens to be on a 2-player card from the 1991 Fleer Superstar Special subset.  The other player featured??  Hall of Famer and teammate Ryne Sandberg.

Have a look:

The background of the image used on this card makes it a little on the dark side for me.

Still, Dawson’s autograph pops due to the use of a brand new Blue Sharpie marker.

If I ever get the chance to add Sandberg’s signature to this card, I am all over it!!!
